The environment is very good. In the river along the tent room, I saw crocodiles and hippos, which was very shocking. The service is also very good, but the facilities in the room are relatively old and watery.

Fig Tree Camp was one of the lodges and camps that we stayed at on a 19 day safari through Kenya and Tanzania booked through Tapestry of Africa. Fig Tree Camp has wonderful smiling staff, great facilities and an amazing location with direct access to the Masai Mara. Your stay will be different depending on the accommodation that you stay in. On our first night we stayed in a bungalow that could not have been any further from the main lodge buildings. Although comfortable, it was dark, and very hard to find after dark! We got lost going back after dinner. Our travelling companion found themselves in a bungalow that seemed to be our with the staff accommodation. On our second night we were moved to luxury safari tents and they were very, very different to the bungalows. They were close to the pool and lodge buildings, light and airy, and due to the fact they would have been severely damaged in the floods earlier in the year, they were virtually new. Beautiful furniture, bathroom, bed, linens. Both overlooked the river across to the Masai Mara. There was a hippo pool a few metres along the riverbank from us. Just amazing! Our meals were served and eaten in an enclosed space near the pool. The buffet was quite good, but if something ran out it was not necessarily refilled. The dining space was quite cramped and very noisy when full. The bar had very limited seating and the viewing deck was closed. Future stays will be different to ours with the reopening of the beautiful open air lodge building with much larger open air bar and restaurant, and the fig tree viewing deck. This was due to happen the week after our stay. We still recommend the camp if you are travelling to the Masai Mara, either on an organised safari, or as an independent traveller. Its location with direct access to the Masai Mar via a private bridge is amazing. Just be aware that your experience will be different depending on the accommodation that you book.

Fabulous place! Comfortable “tents” (more like chalets than tents) and a river below them with hippo families and crocodiles. Shine a torch at night and the eyes gleam back at you. Run the beam over the bushes on the opposite bank and the eyes are those of hyenas. The night air carries the sounds of the hippos, hyenas and lions. If you get the chance, take the sunrise hot air balloon ride - it’s marvellous, and the breakfast on the Masai Mara grasslands when you land is a fantastic, surreal experience.

I had an amazing stay with my family at this hotel. The location is absolutely incredible — right in the heart of the savannah, with the chance to see many animals just around the hotel. And I’m not even talking about the rooms, which offer a breathtaking view of the lake where hippos can be seen throughout the day — a truly unique experience. The food was of excellent quality, and the breakfast boxes provided for early morning departures were a fantastic touch. But what really made the difference was the team: from A to Z, everyone was kind, attentive, and always ready to help. A big thank you to Sammy, James, Benson, Sheila, Mary, Sadera, and the whole team — you were absolutely amazing!

The staff, food, tent and reception/bar/ patio area really good. Now! I've been to mara a hundred times. Seen the place, but never stopped in. These accommodations needed to be 4 meters apart. A lot of disturbance from a lot of inconsiderate people. Maybe the camp could remind people about this behavior. The biggest issue, the person running the place. Separating my driver and I at meals for no reason. Even wanting me to pay an extra 2000 kns to sit with me. Felt like being swindled. Yes it was a huge deal. Way more than you know. It was decided about 24hrs before check out, the driver can join you. I thought, great im really happy until. A camp staffer agreed to join in a short end of day game drive. For some reason the same person was out in the parking making sure that staffer didn't go with us. It was weird. After spending 4nts there and leaving in the morning. My stay was totally disregarding. The first night, I decided never again. It was BS. The place isn't worth the smothering of that, and inconsiderate demanding people everywhere. Even in low season, never mind high season. Been doing safaris since 99. My stays never went like this.
