Thansur Tatai Eco Resort

It could have been a delightful stay. I truly understand how hard it is to serve guests, which is why I rarely leave negative feedback. The property was a bit dusty, but that’s something we could overlook (we are relaxed since it’s hard for us 3 to get together on a trip) The main issue was with the food service. We had been informed about the available times to order food, and since it’s a remote area, we were really happy to know that option was available. However, in reality, it was quite different. There were times I had to look around everywhere to find someone, and even after texting, I received no response—not even a “seen” notification for like an hour I guess. To be honest, they could have simply informed us in advance if there would be a period when no one would be around the property. Therefore, we could have be prepared or ordered something in advance. Lastly, I sent a message regarding the bill, but again, no reply. On a positive note, the boatman was very nice.

We stayed at Thansur Tatai for one night between more luxurious hotels, and generally had a great time, however I would not have stayed longer than one more additional night. I think the resort is enjoyable so long as you manage your expectations -- it is very secluded with very little to do and very basic amenities. The rooms (and shower) is quite rustic, the villas are charming but as they are made of bamboo, you can expect bugs and flies to get inside even with the doors shut. The mosquito net and bedside lamp were covered in (live and dead) flies. There is a ceiling fan and a floor fan, which we had to move right in front of the bed as we were still quite hot. The walkway had loose planks and nails poking out. Furthermore the staff seemed to be enjoying the peace a bit too much as our transfer too the hotel was quite stressful to organise, and upon check-out they didn't know we had booked a taxi with them. That said, the resort is very peaceful and the location is idyllic. The floating villas are so special and we felt so relaxed hanging out in the room and on the deck just doing nothing for once. The food was amazing, although the smoothie I ordered was not, and we had no issues with the wifi.

My wife got pneumonia before we travelled and we couldn’t go to the hotel as planned. Despite giving lots of notice, and repeated requests from *******, the hotel refused to let us cancel. They were within their legal rights, but this was mean-hearted.
