Orchard Club - Newton House
4.3/546 Reviews
The market town Knaresborough looked an ideal stopping point en route to London by car, just off the A1 and with stunning views from the castle which was a stronghold of medieval kings, across the River Nidd and viaduct. It's also near Mother Shipton's Cave, named after England's most famous Prophetess who lived some 500 years ago during the reign of King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The cave is her legendary birthplace and near to a geological phenomenon, the Petrifying Well, England's oldest visitor attraction. Sadly, the weather closed in and driving down the rain-soaked A1, allied to an extensive delay because of traffic through Newcastle, meant it was closed when we got there. We had a walk but a chill wind forced us back to the Orchard Club Hotel situated near the centre of town. It's on the main road and easy to spot but finding the car park up a tight alleyway was a pain. We got there in the end. It is Grade II listed and was formerly the Newton House Hotel. Each room is named and styled with a particular fruit as its inspiration. Ours was comfortable if a tad old fashioned for our taste. It had everything you needed and we slept well despite our room overlooking a busy main road rear traffic lights. The breakfast choice was extensive and other guests were using it as a convenient location for touring to places like Fountains Abbey, the largest monastic ruins in the country, York and, of course, Mother Shipton's Cave.

Our winter wedding at Goldsborough Hall in November 2024 was truly magical. The venue itself is stunning, with its elegant architecture and breathtaking grounds providing the perfect backdrop for our special day. Our guests were captivated by its beauty, with many commenting on the enchanting atmosphere. The tasteful Christmas decorations added a festive touch, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. From our very first visit, the wedding team at Goldsborough Hall were exceptional. Their expertise and guidance made the planning process seamless and stress-free. A special thank you to Amanda, whose genuine care and attention to detail ensured all our needs were met with a personal touch. On the day itself, everything ran like clockwork thanks to the attentive and discreet support of the Goldsborough staff. The food was simply outstanding - every dish was exquisitely presented and bursting with flavour. We received countless compliments from our guests! We can't wait to return to Goldsborough Hall to celebrate future anniversaries and special occasions. It holds a truly special place in our hearts. Helen & Leo
Kirkgate House

What a lovely bed and breakfast ! A great location minutes from the town centre. Although there is no parking places allocated you can unload and load your cases right outside. As we were staying for 2 nights we parked in the long stay car park which is about 8 mins walk away at a cost £1.90 for 24 hours. We were given a very warm welcome by Karen on arrival and shown to our room. Our room was very comfy and spotlessly clean with absolutely everything you could possibly need for your stay. There was tea and coffee in the room with little extra's like chocolate, sweets, biscuits etc, which were a treat and a very thoughtful touch. You are asked to choose a time for breakfast and pre-order the day before which was a great idea. This ensuring your breakfast was served piping hot and it was absolutely delicious. Karen and Rob are wonderful friendly and accommodating hosts who offer a fantastic B & B experience. Would definitely stay again! .
