Kisoji No Yado Iwaya

Very warm owners. Ordered dinner by email separately; was delicious. Baths are simple but clean and enjoyable. Room was comfortable.

Lovely ryokan, great onsen. Garden view room were spacious.

Stayed here mid May for 2 nights. Great experience of a traditional Japanese Ryokan which served beautiful and tasty authentic food. Room was simple, with basic amenities and a futon bed (thin mattresses on the floor). Lovely view of the river, but there was a constant noise of rushing water. Staff were very friendly, spoke limited English but more than enough to get by, particularly one of the waitresses who explained how the dinner worked and what we were eating. We were provided with a Yukata in the room to wear for meals. Were unsure if it compulsory and how to wear it so we asked the man at reception who was very helpful. Everyone wore them to dinner, no one at breakfast. Although the restaurant is small and intimate, we were sat at a table for the 2 of us, larger groups were all sat together. The food was very good and plenty of it. Each meal was different, including the breakfast, wine was not great though, stick to the beer! Location was 10 - 15 min walk to train station, if you dont want to walk there were taxis at the station. Excellent experience in great place.

Traditional and actually very old Japanese style Inn. Family run and conveniently located for Naksendo hike. It has both the charm and idiosyncrasies of an Inn that is of the era. Modern conveniences are present though and the food is good.

If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese experience this is the place. Booked a traditional Japanese room for 4 people, an got a huge room ( it was actually multiple rooms) overlooking the river. The hospitality of the host was fantastic an we got the most authentic Japanese breakfast (fish, soup and vegetables, tea) The only thing bad to say was the lack of places to eat at night. But maybe it was because of the midseason ? A little far to walk from the train station in the heat with all our luggage, but then hotel next door saw us at the station and gave us a lift. Says all about the Japanese people
