We stayed with Eric and Alice for just over a week, and it truly felt like home. Their hospitality and warmth were exceptional—second to none. Even before we arrived, they were incredibly kind and accommodating, and that kindness only grew throughout our stay. I would choose staying here over any hotel without hesitation, and I would gladly return if I ever visit again. I can’t recommend Eric and Alice highly enough. Thank you both so much!

A little away from main centre, easy walk of 20 mins. Good breakfast. Eric generously provided a lift to the chemist while it was raining. Rooms being renewed , new rooms lovely older ones comfortable enough. We were part of a Rabbies tour and didn't book ourselves. Happy with our stay.

An amazing guest house, owned and run by a young couple who went out of their way to be helpful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. We were a party of 5 and had 3 rooms, so we were kindly given the whole top floor of the guest house, which had a lovely cosy sitting area with facilities for making hot drinks, a microwave etc. We had a takeaway one evening and all sat around the table together. The rooms were very clean and cosy, and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was first class and plenty to last the whole day. The hosts were very knowledgeable about Orkney and the surrounding islands, if they didn’t know the answer they would find it out. I would highly recommend this guest house, and will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Orkney. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable.

Stayed here on our Orkney Intrepid tour. Stayed four nights. Great accommodation with a modern ensuite, very comfortable beds, and excellent selection for breakfast. A short walk from Kirkwall with a lovely view. Very warm welcome from hosts.

Orkney is tough to get to and there is limited lodging or restaurants. The folks who run Royal Oak are very nice and accommodating but you should be aware it’s a rooming house, not a hotel. It feels as if you’re sharing space with other travelers upstairs. It advertises a bar/lounge but there isn’t one. There’s a lounge area with seating and a TV along with items from the family that owns it. Very much like someone’s family room or living room. It truly feels like a rooming or boarding house rather than a hotel. The decor is showing wear but it’s clean. Unless you’re familiar and like a boarding house , would not recommend.

Friendly guest house, with thoughtful touches making it a comfortable and unique place to stay. Breakfast is delicious and cooked exactly to order. Location is ideal, a short walk into the centre of Kirkwall, with amazing views out over the hills. Highly recommended!

This was a beautiful place to stay. Good parking. People were very friendly. Comfy beds. Lovely fresh towels. Tea/coffee available. Breakfast was really good. Good choices and a great start to the day. Will definitely stay there again if in Kirkwall.
