The Dolphin is a lovely olde pub, full of character and lovely, friendly local people (thanks Guy & Vanessa for your extraordinary kindness). The food menu was very basic, but the fish & chips were good. The real ale was kept very well too. The reason for the 1* rating, which is being generous .... unfortunately we were staying the night, and the accommodation (in a separate building) was absolutely disgusting. The room was dirty, mould on walls of bathroom and bedroom, carpet filthy, nothing privided other than a kettle and bath towels, no cups/tea or coffee/milk or glasses provided, no room facilities information and no fire safety instructions! (To be fair the bed was quite comfortable and thankfully bed linen was clean). When politely asking for the basic, missing room items, the temporary manager said " its nothing to do with me, I'm just temporary"!!!! We had breakfast included, but declined, as we just wanted to get out ASAP. I am really angry, having paid £120 for a filthy room which resembled a derelict 1970s holiday camp chalet room. It's a disgrace this can be allowed, the accommodation should be condemned. STAY THERE AT YOUR PERIL!! The local people really support their village pub, however the pub management company/owners don't, and it is a classic example where the community should be given the opportunity to purchase the pub to lovingly restore it and bring the life and soul back into these fabulous old buildings, and make them great again.

Keep away! I would not recommend a stay at the Dolphin Inn at all. The overall experience was terrible. The room was small and inadequately lit. The sheets and pillow cases, although obviously clean, were placed on old and very badly stained pillows and mattress. The shower holder was broken and as a result the shower head was difficult to direct. The towels and bathroom mat were ancient and threadbare. There was no cooked breakfast, as had been advertised, and what we were given had to be eaten sat on the side of the bed. We had hoped to have a meal in the evening but was presented with a very small menu (as the chef was only part time) and the appearance of the room did not fill us with much confidence. Had a great meal elsewhere! I have learned my lesson- look at the most recent reviews - not general reviews and average ratings. -The place has obviously been good in the past but has not been cared for recently. As a place for a drink it is probably ok, but for somewhere to stay, keep away!

We just by chance ended up at his charming country pub from a long walk from Ringmore. luckily for us it was Open Mic nite. the food we had was great pub grub. But the quality of the locals musicianship was off the scale. I can't remember the Guiarist names but as a perfessional guitarist myself i was awestuck with the level of quality. on that note i'm coming back next Open mic nite again. Wow made my year,

Having booked before reading the reviews I was a little concerned about the availability of food. I duly wrote an E-mail to check but receiving no response assumed there was no problem. Arriving at what was undeniably a lovely old pub, we were told that the it was the chef's day off so no evening meal. The rooms are in a somewhat down at heel building opposite. Our room was very basic but seemed clean. The price was a good £ 40 more than it should have been. In the bathroom we noticed there was no soap. going back to the bar we were told that soap wasn't provided. That is a first for me. The previous evening we had asked for an early breakfast, 8.00am as we had to catch the Bantham ferry. We were assured the pub door would be open. Going down at 8 it was locked and remained so until we gave up and left at 8.30am despite the fact that a light was on upstairs. So no evening meal or breakfast despite the fact we'd paid for the latter. The impression I have is that they don't really want to accommodate people but just keep the pub side going. I would recommend that anyone considering the Dolphin assists them in that respect. It could be so much better and the accommodation that followed just accentuated how poor this was.

We had an amazing meal here. The menu included an 8oz sirloin which was cooked to perfection, as I asked, rare. Mega compliments to the chef which wete passed on. Lovely ambience which is all credit to the new owners. They made us very welcome. What a gem of a find.

Had the most delicious Sunday lunch today. Husband and I both chose lamb and it was beautifully cooked. Absolutely scrummy. Veg, Yorkshire pudding, roasties and veg were all so good. We followed with sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Just so good. Highly recommended.

The Dolphin Inn is set in a pretty South Hams village just outside Kingsbridge. After a lovely coastal walk, coming to the Dolphin for food & drink is just perfect. This is a village pub with everything you’d expect from a very traditional public house.
