We were there in January. It was very windy, unpleasantly windy. Too windy for the beach (which is covered in smelly seaweed anyway). Too windy for water activities (our whale shark trip was a nausea-inducing voyage that yielded zero sightings). Apparently that weather isn't unusual this time of year. The food was fine, the rooms are nice, the pool is pleasant. It's a pretty short drive from the airport. But if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have gone to Mafia Island in January.

Remote, great food, friendly helpful staff. Great Room with AC on beach. Whale Shark snorkeling, sandbank picnic and just relaxing at Lodge was a Wonderfull experience. Seafood was very well prepared, do offer other options for non seafood lovers. Drinks well priced, wine a bit expensive for Rand, but good wines from South Africa. Will visit again forsure LEKKER

Ein wunderschönes Resort! Nach einer erlebnisreichen(aber auch bisschen anstrengenden) Safari entschleunigt man dort sofort! Es ist traumhaft angelegt, alle sind sehr freundlich und kinderlieb. Das Essen ist toll. Mosquito-Spray liegt bereit(dabei waren gar nicht so viele da) und die Wäsche wird kostenlos gewaschen! Eine Open Air Massage direkt am Strand löst endgültig alle Verspannungen. Wenn man dann noch das Glück hat einen Walhai (oder mehrere) zu sehen und mit ihnen zu schnorcheln, dann ist man wirklich im Himmel auf Erden. Das Managment versucht alles um einen glücklich zu machen. Das muss ich nun nochmal erwähnen: denn wir hatten schon einen Walhai gesehen, aber an einem Tag waren 20 Exemplare direkt in der Nähe an der Oberfläche und haben gegessen… Auf Nachfrage ist die Crew dann nochmal mit uns alleine zu Ihnen gefahren. Es war wirklich unfassbar toll. Vielen lieben Dank, dass ihr uns dies ermöglicht habt!!!!

Stayed for two weeks and it was a wonderful experience. I was staying in tend #6 and I loved it The bed was comfortable and the whole stay was great. Nearly dived every day and did some tours to the Lokal environment and nature. Especially the tour to Chole Island and the bird watching with Mudy was great. Super liked the food and the friendliness of the whole stuff. Especially the help and support from Simon. Awesome, really felt like home!!!

Arrivare a Mafia è come fare un salto nel tempo, e trovarsi in una realtà fatta di autenticità e sensazioni lontane dai canoni del turismo di massa. Butiama Lodge è lo specchio di quanto sopra, un posto quasi incantato, dove il relax regna assoluto. I lodge sono spaziosi e ben arredati, con una grande veranda che si affaccia sul giardino e sul mare, godibili anche dal letto matrimoniale che guarda l'esterno. Ottimo il cibo, sia a pranzo che a cena, servito in maniera impeccabile. Abbondante e variegata la colazione. Direttamente dalla spiaggia, con barca messa a disposizione dal resort, siamo partiti anche per una incredibile nuotata con gli squali balena a pochi minuti di navigazione. Quattro giorni a "piedi scalzi" che mi hanno trasmesso una sensazione unica di pace e libertà. Un posto che ti lascia solo la voglia di tornare ancora. Grazie a tutto lo staff, per la gentilezza e la premura in ogni situazione.

After a tiring but exciting week touring Uganda, this was the perfect place to finish. Mafia is like Zanzibar was 25 years ago in terms of the lack of crowds and the tranquil setting. Butiama Beach Lodge is a real gem. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean. The food is simple but extremely well cooked: one fish main course we had counts as one of our most memorable meals ever. The staff are hardworking and cheerful. One of the main attractions is the opportunity to swim with whale sharks, which we did. It is surprisingly active, involving multiple jumps off the boat and ungainly attempts to get back on!

Amazing peaceful spot with a fantastic staff that takes care of all of your needs. Good was good and massages were excellent. The room was very private - we were in unit 1. The snorkel trips with the whale sharks was the best part - we had multiple encounters with these gentle beasts.

Nach einer spannenden Safari haben wir uns noch 5 Tage auf Mafia entspannt. Aber halt, nicht wirklich! Wir hatten mit den Big Blues schöne Tauchgänge und sind mit Walhaien geschnorchelt. Die Loge unter Führung von William ist sehr angenehm. Das Personal liest dir die Wünsche von den Augen ab. Es ist alles sehr sauber und stilvoll eingerichtet. William hat hier alles im Griff und führt nicht nur Smalltalk mit seinen Gästen. Das Dinner wird in drei Gängen zelebriert und ist vorzüglich! Danke für den wunderschönen Aufenthalt Judith & Ralf
