We stayed here for two nights before heading up to Volcanoes National Park to go Gorilla trekking. We had a terrific stay. The room was very comfortable and very clean and the staff was lovely. Very friendly and very hospitable. They have a nice bar and a good breakfast. Nina the hotel manager was terrific and Janet, one of the massage therapists, was wonderful. I had one of the best massages ever. The retreat was a great place to stay and I highly recommend when visiting Kigali.

We had a lovely stay, the staff are attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The facilities and restaurant ( heaven ) were great - the retreat restaurant was ok and had a more African style menu but the food and ambience are nowhere near as nice as Heaven. Only downside was that we were in a Villa that had a plunge pool and outside shower but recent and ongoing construction of a multi storey building directly behind meant that despite the hotels obvious recently added screens we were overlooked in particular in the shower by numerous workmen between 9am and 5.30 pm and at other times by the sites security staff. In addition to banging, shouting and machinery noise which was quite intrusive particularly in the early mornings. The staff offered to move us and were clearly aware of and also unhappy about this adjoining disturbance/intrusion for their guests. The building is far off completion so I suspect there are many more months of this to come. I would not advise against staying here and personally would do so again however I would ensure that our room was not one of those affected.

I just had THE BEST massage from Jeanette in the spa. Wow!! I’ve had many all around the world and this one stood out. If you want to get rid of tight muscles, look not further. Great hotel and wonderful staff! Both restaurants were great. Try the banana beer too! Thank you for a lovely time.

We had a wonderful stay including a super relaxing day including happy hour drinks and snacks with Alphonse who provided incredible service with a smile, made a great drink and shared the best treats the Retreat had to offer. We also had a great massage earlier in the day and a wonderful brunch to get the day started.

Beautiful rooms and great first night in Kigali. We flew from NY to Nairobi to Kigali and stayed here our first night after our long trip. It was a perfect place to stay for our entry into our trip. Centrally located in the city. The rooms were spectacular with our own heated pools our teenage kids swam in. Indoor and outdoor showers. Apparently our kids stayed in the same suite King Charles stayed in over the summer. The gym here is well equipped and i worked out twice in it. We had breakfast included which was nicely served by the main pool. Make note it included a 30 min massage but you have to book in advance. We were not told this so they were not able to accommodate that amenity for us which was a disappointment that’s why i gave it 4 stars. Also we ate dinner at the hotel and i regret that. The food wasn’t great for dinner, in retrospect we should have tried one of the restaurants in Kigali since it is safe and they have lots of options that have views overlooking the city. Otherwise for the room and gym i highly recommend this hotel.

A lovely stay for our one night in Kigali. Had a lovely lunch at Fusion and dinner at Heaven with a special guest, Keza the cat. In the afternoon we took an excellent cocktail making class with the very knowledgeable and fun Alphonse. We each got to go behind the bar and try our hand at making the Retreat’s signature cocktails. If we ever come back to Kigali, would love to stay here again!

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights prior to heading up to see the gorillas. The staff are wonderfully welcoming, the rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. There are also great coffee makers on the rooms, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Stay at the retreat, you won't be sorry you did!

Since having children, I have found that when someone loves my kids, it's as if they are loving me ten-times over. Rwanda is a culture that loves children, and the staff at The Retreat are no exception. This month, my family and I stayed at The Retreat twice. Why did we come back a second time? They loved our children so much! I could honestly list every member of the staff here with gratitude. They all became friends to our whole family, but especially to our children. While the hotel is stunning, with such thoughtful amenities (to highlight how unique this is in Rwanda, I must mention they have a hot tub, and diving rocks into their salt water pool!), and delicious food... a place that makes your whole family feel that welcome deserves our deep thanksgiving.
