I hate having to write negative reviews, especially about such a beautiful place where most staff are excellent, but we had an incredibly disappointing stay at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club this time. We had belongings stolen from our room during our stay, and nothing was done aside from vague apologies and an offer for housekeeping to help look for them in the room. Apple AirPods were taken from inside a bag in our room, and we could track leaving the hotel and being taken into Nanyuki. We will definitely not be returning and will be advising others to not come due to obvious security concerns. The AirPods were in a pocket of a bag, so our items were gone through to find and take them, which feels like a huge violation. In addition to this, the fireplace in our room was not working, despite being briefed on how it would be lit at night when we checked in. Not a huge deal, but frustrating when we weren’t informed about it, and when the hotel was very obviously not at capacity and there were presumably other rooms with functional fireplaces. Our biggest concern was hotel employees driving incredibly quickly and dangerously around the pathways. We have young children and had an employee driving an SUV down the small road leading to our suite have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting us on our way to breakfast. Overall, we are incredibly disappointed with our stay and expect better from a Fairmont hotel. We live in Nairobi and have always recommended the Mr. Kenya safari club to people, but no longer will be doing so.
