My wife and I arrived around 4.00 pm and checked in at the bar as there was no front of house facility. The bar area was crowded with customers and there was a band playing We were directed to our room There was only one other party in residence during our stay. Our allocated room was on the top floor which required us to climb a number of flights of stairs to reach our room. Although I did not count then, I estimate the number of stairs to reach our room to be at least sixty. There was no lift in the building, and the standard of the handrails on the stairs was poor to say the least, and on some stairs, there was no handrail at all. I believe the standard of the stairs represented severe safety and fire hazard. There was no bathroom available on the same floor as our room, only one on the floor below, down several flights of stairs. The toilet facilities on the same level as our room were also poor. In the room itself, there were no facilities to hang our clothes. It was obvious the hotel relied heavily on the bar trade and accommodation facilities were incidental. There is no way I would recommend this hotel for accommodation.

The hotel is within walking distance of the blowhole, the main street of Kiama, the markets, the surf beach, and the train station. It is an old pub with old facilities that needed work, all of which was expected for the price. But a few easy fixes could have changed this room's rating for the price from poor to good value. The floor was visually dirty. When opening and closing the blind you got black dirt on your skin/ clothes. The shared bathroom facilities never had toilet paper and lacked a bin for paper towels. The windows needed to be opened prior to guests to remove the stale air smell. The staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful, but obviously expecting complaints from their behavior.

WORST rating I can give. 45min wait. Sad shrivelled up tiny veil schnitzel on a bed of glue paste like mash potatoes $32. 3x burnt potato “scallops” the size of potato gems $10. We sent the food back and went to red rooster. Total fail and very rude slow incompetent bar staff.

Absolutely rubbish! Do not recommend. We booked (and paid and received confirmation of) a room in September 2024 for 2 nights in February 2025 (Friday and Saturday 21 and 22 February 2025) to attend The Red Hot Summer music festival in Berry. Drove from Canberra after work on Friday. Got to The Grand Kiama at around 6.30pm. Went to check in. Was told they had water damage a few weeks ago and all previous bookings had been cancelled. “Your booking must have fallen through the cracks. Sorry.” The rooms were now ok and ready to use. However all rooms were booked out that night so there was no room for us - despite our booked, confirmed and paid reservation. This left us trying to find last minute accommodation (we found somewhere in Nowra - 45minute drive away). No offer of anything - no drink from the bar or dinner or assistance to find other accommodation. Super dissatisfied and disappointed and overall lack of care. Do not recommend this place.

The accommodation was cancelled, when we arrived we were told they had some water damage and they were unable to provide accommodation. They stated this happened 2 weeks ago but we were not informed so we had to try and find alternate accommodation at Double the price.

Good Location. Poor cleanliness. Showers in our room not working had to use other ones.

My mum and I ate here on the 29th of December 2024, and it was hardly grand!!! I would first like to say that the staff were very nice and good at their jobs, our poor experience was not their fault; they were clearly understaffed. We had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food (calamari and a cheeseburger) and when we did get it my burger patty was basically raw in the middle. I am very disappointed as I don't like to be negative, but I truly feel like I have to warn people not to eat at this place. Sending love to the stressed out staff, hope they can get some extra help and that the Grand Hotel can clean up it's act! Still love Kiama tho great place to visit :)))

I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. O.M.G! I should have expected the worst when i stepped onto the first worn and not carpeted step to climb up to the top floor. The stairs were carpeted further up but boy! were they a safety hazard with all the edges frayed and worn away. Finally made it to the top floor and found my room.Looked freshly painted as there was pain all over the light fixture. The bed was flat on the floor with no legs to support it luckily i was able bodied enough to get up off it.Where's the TV? there wasn't one. Where's the coffee making? After a search through the rabbit warren i found the ladies bathroom and coffee making facilities BUT no milk AND no cups. I dug through the cupboard underneath and found some plastic picnic cups but no spoons. Was wary of using the cups but had no choice if i wanted a drink. On to the bathroom, Ancient is an understatement.I wouldn't use the shower as it was in the bathtub and this would be an impossibility to get out of with any impairment. Now back to the room; No bedhead, pillows up against the wall plus the pillows LOOKED fresh but were stained and the throw pillows were sad looking things.NEXT; NO POWER POINT IN THE ROOM! just an extension cord run through the window from god knows where. The sound of creaking boards and other guests could be heard clearly as well as the roar of pub patrons downstairs which echoed up through the courtyard outside my window. The owners need to desperately update the upper part of the pub as there seems to be lots of space .
