It’s extremely good hotel where you can truely feel the people life in Lake District

Super hotel, great service, lovely grounds. Food (on a Sunday evening) wasn't up to 2 AA rosette standard.

I can only describe our stay as perfect in every way and just disappointed that we only had one night. The hotel is everything and more, a lovely warm welcome. The room was spacious, beautiful interior and comfy bed. Views from the hotel are spectacular and the restaurant is top notch. We had room 15, it was on the 1st floor and had extensive TV choices including Disney, Netflix. The carpet and furnishings were sumptuous and the bathroom had a shower cubicle and separate bath. Everything was pristine. We ate at the restaurant, the food was amazing, a five course set menu where service was effortless and each dish tasted as good as it looked. Great night's sleep and delicious breakfast. I can't wait to return again.

The setting for the hotel is beautiful and there are many walks from the hotel door. The staff provide excellent service and several have worked there for sometime so it is like meeting old friends. Comfortable rooms and good food make this a perfect relaxing break.

The location is outstanding, both for views of the local hills and for access to walks at all levels. The hotel grounds are also a treat. The hotel staff are welcoming, friendly and professional; the service is excellent. It manages to get the right balance by being both high quality and relaxed. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was modern and well equipped. Overall a wonderful experience!

The Borrowdale Gates is one of those places that you lock up in your heart - and as soon as you leave you will be promising yourself that you will return. In the meantime you will have wonderful memories - of a hotel where you were warmly welcomed, where you were able to relax in beautiful surroundings, and where every meal was simply excellent. The Borrowdale Gates was the perfect Lake District experience for us - in every way. Until the next time...thank you for a fabulous stay. We enjoyed every part of it.

We had the wonderful pleasure of staying at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel for 9 glorious days and it could not have been better. We arrived and were greeted like family by Nicola. Throughout our stay she recommended places for us to visit and all of them were home runs, she did not disappoint. The kitchen chefs made incredible meals and accommodated our soy allergy without any problem. You will LOVE the food. The meal staff, Eleanor, Lucy, Chris and Marilyn always took time to chat with us and Chris always kept us laughing with his fabulous sense of humor. Marilyn made sure we had breakfast on our departure morning, as we left before the staff arrived. We commend all of the behind the scenes staff as well, they kept everything in order! However, we believe the glue to the Borrowdale Gates Hotel is their GM, Sue. She is amazing. She took care of us like we were family, introduced us the the chefs (I am so sorry I don’t remember their names) and told us many tales of sheep, Keswick and the Borrowdale Gates history, to name a few. We miss them all!! We hope to return and we would encourage anyone who is visiting the Lake District to stay at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel. You will be treated like royalty. (And, the property is gorgeous, the views incredible and remodeled interior is beautiful, sparkling clean, and very comfortable.)

This was our fourth visit to the Borrowdale Gates Hotel. The evening dining is great with a good selection of well cooked food, all of which is well thought out. There are plenty of breakfast options from the Full Cumberland, which is good before a day’s walking, to several lighter options for less energetic days. The surroundings are lovely and you can sit eating breakfast watching all sorts of birds at the feeding stations, with the odd red squirrel or lost sheep wandering past if you are lucky! The hotel is well located for many walks and easy access to Derwentwater and Keswick. On our first visit to the hotel a few years ago, we thought it looked very nice but a little tired. Recent refurbishments have updated the rooms, bar and restaurant and have managed to keep the character and comfort whilst smartening everywhere up to a high standard. What hasn’t changed is the staff approach (and in many cases, the staff members). They are always very friendly and happily assist with any queries. It really feels like a home from home. We were booked in from Wednesday until Saturday and arrived to find things up to the usual high standard in comfort and friendliness. We did, however, find an extra dimension to customer care that the hotel provides, as on Thursday when we were at the top Glaramara, we found out about a family emergency at home. When we eventually got back down and to the hotel, we decided the best plan (due to tiredness from our walk and a 2 hour drive home) was to stay overnight and leave after breakfast, but with an option of leaving at anytime overnight if required. As we didn’t want anyone thinking the we were ‘doing a runner’, I went to speak to the staff and was told not to worry and to do what we needed and shown exactly what I needed to do to leave (as the front door is locked at night). The emphasis was not on what the hotel needed, but what we needed and was most relaxing at a very stressful time. We did stay the night and left on Friday, and again the staff checked we were OK when we arrived for breakfast. This was absolutely first class customer service.

Lovely traditional hotel with good old fashioned levels of service and attention to detail. The dinner was one of the best I've ever had. The head chef is truly a master of simple, delicately balanced flavours that leave you wanting more. All the staff are wonderful, attentive, professional.
