Sheen Falls Lodge

My wife and I have just returned from a three night stay at Sheen Falls Lodge. We have been in many hotels all over the world and can honestly say this was exceptional. We experienced the warmest welcome , wonderful friendly efficient service , luxurious room and hotel facilities. The breathtaking setting of the hotel at the Sheen River falls was simply outstanding. We had dinner in the Stables and Falls restaurants and the service and food was magnificent. There is a large variety of activities at the resort . We played golf at their Ring of Kerry golf club and received the same warm welcome and service we experienced at the hotel. The course is challenging , beautifully maintained and has magnificent views of Kenmare Bay and Caha Mountains. This resort is a credit to the owners , management and staff . We thank them for a wonderful enjoyable stay. It is no surprise that Sheen Falls has won so many prestigious awards . We cannot wait to return to this exceptional hotel.

We returned to Sheen Falls Lodge recently and were delighted we did. The rooms, facilities and service are among the very best in Ireland. Everyone here makes you feel welcome and a special guest. There's a car to take you to Kenmare town and collect you on request which I think is a recent addition. The breakfast choice and service is excellent and is included. We were sorry to leave after only 2 days and will stay longer next time.

Had a lovely 3 night stay at Sheen Falls Lodge. The weather was on our side for 2 of the 3 days and managed to enjoy a number of activities that are offered here. The instructors were knowledgeable, engaging and were great with our kids too. We had planned to do the Ring of Kerry drive but bad weather meant we weren’t able to do it in full. We were glad we had the hotel to enjoy despite missing out on our original plan. I would stay here again to try complete the parts of the Ring of Kerry we weren’t able to see. I saw comments where reviewers were critical of the staff - this was not our experience at all. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Special mention to “Guinness” the cat who roams freely around the property and is full of personality.

We were tired from our overnight flight but when our family arrived we all awoke with the pleasant greetings we received from everyone. Our rooms were ready and the suitcases were brought up promptly. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are all professional and friendly. We had meals at the Stables and The Falls- both were excellent with great service. The breakfast room which is also the Falls restaurant is elegant with a beautiful buffet and dishes to order. The orders came quickly and were well prepared again with professional service. The room was very nice and fortunately had strong air conditioning as we arrived during a heat wave. We took a fishing excursion which is a short walk from the hotel with our excellent guide. Received instruction in fly fishing, but unfortunately the salmon weren't biting. Some of the family went horseback riding- we were novices and the horses are lead on their leash by someone walking. A very safe family adventure. We we driven to town by hotel and picked up- a great convenience . The town is lovely with small shops and restaurants. When it was time to leave bags were promptly delivered to the van. Overall an excellent experience from check in to check out.

What a treat to stay in this beautiful hotel. The staff was all so nice, the rooms incredibly comfortable, the scenery and setting beautiful. The breakfasts were masterpieces. The grounds are gorgeous and manicured and it’s a treat to be right on the river. In addition, the falls on the property are also lovely. With the exception of the Stables restaurant on site I can’t think of anything that could’ve been improved.

What a disaster this hotel seems, we booked it as it is in the same group as another resort in East Cork which we’ve always enjoyed. Reception staff at Sheen Falls Lodge appear at best incompetent. We booked a 3 night stay early June and the reception staff seemed unable to grasp this was 2 separate bookings in the same name (one for 2 nights, one for an additional night). It took half an hour to check in due to this. When we reached our room, the heating was on full with no guest control for turning it down or off. Worth noting that this was early June and the hotel places a number of notices around your room stating their concerns for the environment! Tried to order room service - the call wasn’t answered so we called reception who simply tried to put us through again and had no concept that the customer was being inconvenienced. Tried the brasserie which reeked of woodsmoke - when we requested we open a window they said they weren’t able to. After 2 nights of our stay reception called our room to see if we needed help with our luggage. Again we wasted our time explaining that we had a 3 night stay to which they just seemed baffled. The final straw was on checkout we were presented with a bill for another rooms room service at over €300. The receptionist seemed unable to comprehend how this had happened (nor could we) and there was an awful lot of unprofessional back and forth from the managers office. Again checkout took 30 minutes - not a good use of your guests time. Breakfast manager was surly and walks away from your table before you’ve placed an order. She also tried to guess our room number one morning which didn’t fill us with confidence of guest security. Many of these issues appear to have been raised in previous reviews so it’s a shame the hotel management aren’t learning from their feedback. We would not stay in their hotel again even if we were paid to.
