The Eagle and Child Inn

We had a great meal here when we called on the off chance of getting a table. It was a Weds night so we thought it would be quiet, how wrong we were?! Fortunately the lovely Phillipa found us a table and couldn’t do enough for us to make sure everything we wanted was sorted out. We’re both vegetarian and find the veggie options limited in many places we visit, the Lakes was an exception to this rule and the Eagle and Child provided us with excellent choices, we had home cooked veggie chilli and a butternut squash lasagne, perfect after a long walk. I have to mention Phillipa as she encompasses all that good service is about, efficient, engaging, energetic and nothing was too much trouble a real gem of a barmaid, in a homely pub with a roaring fire, what more could you ask for?!
Days Inn by Wyndham Kendal Killington Lake
3.7/5103 Reviews
The hotel’s facilities are complete, clean and tidy, and the staff are friendly and lovely. Due to Ctrip, the room may have been wrongly booked. They adjusted the large room for us for free, and the stay was very satisfactory.
Stonecross Manor Hotel
4.1/5101 Reviews
Although the hotel is just off the main road into Kendal, it is very quiet, and we had a room in the front. We had a very good welcome at reception. As it was a special occasion we had booked the junior suite on the second floor. There was a convenient lift and the room was nearby. The room itself was clean and tidy with all the usual amenities. It did require a bit of TLC to the paintwork, but we were subsequently told work is due to start at the hotel now out of season is here. The bathroom had a bath and large shower and was very clean. There was a nice environmental touch of soap and body wash bars in small bags, and locally produced. Breakfast was cooked to order, well presented and very tasty. I can definitely recommend the kipper. There was a varied evening meal menu and that was top notch. The bar was well stocked and there was an excellent lounge area to relax in at the end of your meal. We found all staff excellent with nothing too much trouble. Helen, the manager runs a very good establishment. We would certainly visit again.
Damson Dene Hotel

The environment is very good! Very cost-effective! But you need to drive to get there. Suitable for self-driving guests. The breakfast is also very rich and clean.
The Glen Guest House
4.8/519 Reviews
Last stayed at the Glen over 6 years ago, so decided to revisit with my puppy, Betsy and a friend with their puppy too. From the warm welcome by Pauline, I knew I’d make the right decision to return. The Glen is an amazing place to stay, quiet and cosy. The rooms and bathrooms have had a makeover and look amazing. Communication regarding Covid regulations were made clear prior to the visit. Breakfast was … AMAZING!! I love scrambled egg and theirs was probably the best I’ve had! Bill was so friendly at service. I can’t thank you both enough for an amazing stay. It’s not easy traveling with a puppy, but I was put at ease from the moment I arrived. The next time I’m in the lakes there’s no where else I’d rather stay. Thank you again.
The Wild Boar
4.2/579 Reviews
Four of us visited to celebrate our friends birthday and have the alternative afternoon tea. I have visited before but my firends had not. My previous experience had been wonderful, and I rated it as 5/5. Firstly, the good points. The surroundings are superb. The decor is authentic and very quaint. It's clean and welcoming, lovely open fires. The staff are friendly, Jorge is a credit to the place, as is the young lady behind the bar (didn't get her name). Now for the not so good. I have to say that nothing about our experience was awful. It just fell a little short of what we expected for afternoon tea at £35 per head. When our food arrived, it was missing a few items. One of us had ordered the vegetarian option, there was no olives and feta, no halloumi fries and we had a fish goujon missing. The staff were very gracious and rectified this straight away. We had to ask for our teas and coffees. Our food had been taken away and we were sitting with a scone waiting for our hot drinks. Again, the staff rectified it straight away, but I'm not sure we should have to ask. They weren't busy, there were empty tables. If I just took into account the above, our visit was still worthy of a 4/5. However, the soup was watery and tasteless, the pear tart was VERY dry, the fish goujons were a tad greasy and the pigs in blankets were barely cooked. We didn't complain at the time as we just left the piggies and the soup and took our tarts home with us. I would probably still go again but this visit was definitely disappointing, given the cost.
