Hotel Moonlight, Kathmandu – 2 Stars My experience at Hotel Moonlight in Kathmandu was underwhelming, to say the least. The rooms were dark and uninviting, and the air conditioning wasn’t functioning (two hotel staff members tried to fix it and after some time were able to), making for an uncomfortable stay. The table light emitted a concerning buzzing sound, almost threatening with its electric hum, and turned off with every fluctuation of air movement, adding to the unsettling ambiance. The water pressure in the bathroom was very poor, and the shower setup was frustrating—water came out simultaneously from both the spout and the showerhead, further reducing the already weak pressure. Breakfast options were equally lackluster, heavily geared toward meat eaters with little thought or care for variety or creativity. It felt like an afterthought rather than a meal to start your day. Perhaps the most baffling aspect is the price. It’s inexplicably high for what is offered, edging close to the rates of luxury hotels like the Hyatt, yet delivering an experience far below standard. Despite its surprising popularity among mountain trekkers, I fail to see what draws them to this hotel. Sadly, my stay here was not enjoyable, and I would not recommend or return to Hotel Moonlight. There are far better options in Kathmandu at a similar or lower price point.
