Sunshine Marine Lodge

Came here to relax after trekking and safari trips and the lodge is a peaceful retreat set on the northeast side of Zanzibar. Loved the surroundings and garden is so beautiful. I picked this place as it has a dive center and it did not disappoint. The team at Dive Point Zanzibar is professional and the ratio of dive instructors / masters to visitors is 1:2 which is great. I am visiting on the shoulder season as the island is heading into low season so it is relatively quiet everywhere and I get to enjoy the full service and attention :)

We had a wonderful 5 day stay! Special thanks Daniel, James and the rest of the very friendly and helpful staff! The property is very spacious as well as the suites. Our garden view suite even had ocean view. Great location for visitors that want to go diving or snorkeling. The atol is just minutes away.

After an 1 week safari in Tanzania we wanted to enjoy the sea and have some calme. Sunshine marine lodge is a ver’y nice hotel (actually better than the Marine Bay lodge and the azure lodge whose belong to the same group). The view on the sea is amazing. While swimming in the pool you can also admire the view. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. Housekeeping every day and during diner they prepare your room for the night. Some rooms have a balcony snd some others have a sand terrasse. Breakfast is good. Every day a different egg preparation, pancakes, wafers and a chef dedicated to prepare for you a plate of fresh fruits. Diner is also great: you can choose between 3-4 starters and 3-4 main courses in the menu(+ possible to order a la carte). They prepared for us a delicious birthday cake. It is maybe not the best wine cellar but it makes the job with some good sud-africain Chardonnay. Staff is kind and offers an excellent service. You can go snorkeling either the dive point (service within the hotel) or you contact some local guides (available on the beach just in front of the hotel) I definitely recommend this hotel. We used this hotel as our base for scuba diving the eastern shore of Zanzibar. There is a five-star PADI dive shop on site which provides two tank dives in the morning at 800 am. They do dives south of Mnemba Island inside the outside reef. The rental equipment is excellent, and they do provide 5mm full and short suits. They do dive training in one of the three pools on site. The hotel itself is in an ideal rustic setting. Right above the cliffs to the beach, the hotel has several bungalow clusters overlooking the Indian Ocean. We were lucky to get room #5 on the first floor with unobstructed views out to Mnemba Island. Spectacular sunrises. The service is very good, the rooms, common areas and grounds are meticulously maintained, and the restaurant is ample and is covered by an impressively massive, thatched roof. They will arrange for taxi service to and from the airport - an hour and a half drive for $60. While not great, the buffet breakfast is good. One of the managers, Vimal has indicated that they are consistently addressing concerns and making improvements. Dinners are very good. This hotel has too many positives including its location, beautiful buildings and grounds, room and ground cleanliness, staff service and on-site dive shop to warrant anything less than 5 stars.
