Great
AAixinjueluowanggongziThere are many hotels and B&Bs on this hilltop, so the view is naturally good; the walkway is a bit musty, but the room is ok; the breakfast buffet is ok; the seafood at the rooftop dinner is not good, the shrimp is frozen; the rich people go out to walk the elephants in the morning, and prepare fruits when checking out, so that you can feed the elephants if you encounter them, which is quite interesting
SSusan JaneLooking for a beautiful restored estate home with impeccable service and delicious dining? Choose Taru Villa!
We spent three days exploring Kandy and neighboring region. The hotel is tucked behind some commercial buildings, but once the gates open and you move up the driveway, it all fades away. The hotel is elegant with an attention to details. Each space is carefully arranged to make you feel comfortable.
The staff are what really makes Taru Villa shine. Led by the hotel manager, the staff are welcoming and warm. You couldn’t ask for anything more. The food was excellent. The conversation was even better. We highly recommend to anyone.
Well done Taru Villa, well done!
耳耳東氵罒幸一止Excellent hotel with nice interiors, a bit dated but the whole experience had been good.
Beds are comfy, sheets are clean, hotel amenities are just basic, most items are not placed but can be requested if required, like hairdryer etc...
Enjoyed the service of the staff, always friendly and willing to help.
Downside, water pressure can be stronger, hot water takes awhile, water drainage a little slow and have a slight sewage smell at times. Aircon works but little noisy.
Location is great!! Easy to get around and get food, visit sights, parking is right in front of hotel.
Lake view rooms are great!!
GGuest UserThe Good
The standout feature of The Coffee Bungalow is undoubtedly its staff, particularly Adrian, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Everyone we encountered was attentive and genuinely warm, making us feel well cared for. The food was another highlight—delicious and thoughtfully prepared. A particularly nice touch was when they packed us a complimentary to-go lunch for our train journey out of Kandy, which was a pleasant and unexpected gesture.
The Bad
The lack of air conditioning was a notable downside, especially given Kandy’s humidity. While the property has a charming colonial feel, the absence of a solid door between the bedroom and bathroom was an odd design choice. Although the toilet and shower do have louvered doors, privacy is somewhat compromised. Another issue was the challenging entry system—we found ourselves locked out one night, which was frustrating and inconvenient.
The Ugly
Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the ant problem. While some level of bugs is to be expected in a tropical setting, the sheer number of ants, particularly in the bathroom but also in the bedroom, was hard to ignore. It definitely impacted our overall comfort.
Overall, The Coffee Bungalow has a lot of charm and some truly wonderful hospitality, but there are a few quirks and inconveniences that might not suit every traveler. If you’re prepared for a bit of rustic charm and can handle the lack of AC and privacy, the warm service and great food may make up for the downsides.
GGuest Userhad pleasure of staying at this hotel, and I couldn't be more impressed with the level of service and hospitality we received. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable.
The team was incredibly helpful in arranging transportation and suggesting places to visit. They recommended we attend the Tooth Relic Procession and suggested us to visit a waterfall, which turned out to be the most breathtaking waterfall I've ever seen. Their local knowledge truly enhanced our experience.
When our cab dropped us off in the mid , the hotel staff immediately came to pick us up in tuk-tuk.
The staff was consistently polite and accommodating, making us feel welcome and valued throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place where the staff genuinely cares about making your stay special. Thank you for the experience!
TToridesssThe room is large and clean with the strong air con. The staff are helpful and friendly. For the location, there are many restaurant nearby and there are many options that we can choose or ordering the food through Pickme.
GGuest UserThe hotel is on the top of the mountain in Kandy. The mountain road to go is very winding, but the scenery is beautiful. The hotel itself is more like a high-end homestay in China, with a very stylish decoration and a local atmosphere. The room is spacious, with a large floor-to-ceiling window for a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery, and the exquisite bathtub is also very good. What's more worth mentioning is that the staff is very enthusiastic, and all of them have smiles on their faces😊. The most memorable thing for me is that the lady at the front desk is super beautiful and loves to smile. The children especially like her.
GGuest UserThis hotel is on the top of the mountain. The view is very good, the environment is OK, the building is very distinctive, including the decoration of the room, but the worst thing is that the hygiene is very worrying, the door is a bit old, the refrigerator is so dirty that you can't get it off, and there are stains under the toilet seat There were urine stains and hair on the bed. The bed was two beds pushed together and it was uncomfortable to sleep on. The quilt was a sheet and was too tight to pull out. It was very uncomfortable to sleep on. Fortunately, there was a blanket in the cabinet to cover it with. Regarding the food, it’s not good either.
YYOUJUNI used this hotel with a backpacker I met locally. It's a good place to sleep.
WiFi is weak on the upper floor and you need to climb the slope to go to this hotel.
However, access to Candy city was good and it was good to be able to walk on the shores of the lake. Also, I am satisfied because there was an elephant on the way to go and I was allowed to test drive.
GGuest UserThe owners and employees at this hotel are so, so lovely.
Unfortunately their hotel is not. I almost feel catfished as many of the photos highlighted the bar and pool party atmosphere. This was not the case - the pool was a decent size but in the shade and I actually didn’t see anyone in it. The pool party drinking shots I highly suspect were perhaps not a genuine source.
The same goes for the bar which is massive and attended to by several lovely young, bored gentlemen as both times I popped up (once for dinner) I was the only patron. Again no party atmosphere or even people - which is a shame as it is a big venue.
Fortunately next door was another venue for some decent cocktails and music which saved the boredom somewhat.
The bedroom was a decent size with a small fridge (but didn’t work), the bathroom was small, felt dirty, no hand soap or soap for the shower (apart from leftover previous occupants - and that was gross).
The pressure was poor making showering difficult and there was plaster on the floor from some damage - not cleaned up.
The bed was massive and comfortable with air conditioning and a fan so sleep was good.
Finally, and to repeat, the staff were lovely. Very hospitable and the location is about a ten minute walk to the Sacred Tooth Temple and Kandy Lake. So great location.
Would I stay there again - no. Would I pop in to say hello to the owners and next door for a cocktails - possibly!
