The Kalamazoo House Bed & Breakfast

We spent our wedding night here after getting married in South Haven, and it was the perfect place to stay for our first night as husband and wife. We checked in prior and so we were able to head straight to our room, which was clean and very nice! The bathroom was very well kept, and we appreciated the mini fridges available on the floors for our use. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, and the service was amazing. We had fun putting our names in the guest book as well.

The rooms were clean, and the house was well maintained, but our experience did not meet expectations. Downtown Kalamazoo has its challenges, and I want to see this business succeed. The owners and staff were absent when we arrived, with no welcome or orientation provided. During our stay, we only saw employees at breakfast, and none introduced themself. Before booking, I asked about stairs due to my friend's recent knee surgery and was told there were ten steps to the second floor, with no elevator. However, on arrival, we found there were about 30 steep steps, including five just to reach the front door. Had I known this, I wouldn’t have booked the rooms. Breakfast was late on both days, despite being advertised for 9 a.m., with nothing available beforehand, not even coffee. The cook apologized the first morning, and the food was tasty, but she didn't introduce herself. On the second day, breakfast arrived at 9:30, coffee wasn't ready until 9:15, there were no placemats, and our meal was only lukewarm, even though there were just eight guests. My friend sent a private complaint to the owners, who replied citing COVID as a reason (in 2025!). Later, I received this by email: “As a thank you, leave us a 5-star/bubble review on all three platforms (Google, TripAdvisor, and Facebook), and we'll send you a $30 Kalamazoo House gift certificate. Use it towards your next visit, or gift it to a friend or family member! “Simply click the icons at the bottom to get started-thank you again for choosing to stay with us!” Yes, they give you the links. So, beware, most of the reviews you will read were paid for, which of course is misleading.

The Inn/House is beautiful and kept up well. There was no staff visible at anytime until breakfast. Breakfast is only available at 9:00am. If you’re not able to eat at the appointed time, you will receive a sack meal. The ‘gourmet’ breakfast that is bragged about is only 2 choices of casseroles. It is convenient that each room has its own bathroom. We were assigned room 6. The mattress was hard and felt like a barn door. Definitely not worth the money! They receive so many 5 star reviews because the Inn bribes guests with gift cards.

Wonderful place to stay ! Quiet and spacious accommodations, our favorite place to stay when visiting Kalamazoo. Located within walking distance, some delightful restaurants, museums, and art gallery .

This was such a wonderful experience! The welcome from these inn keepers was like family and we felt so comfortable in our room, and about the house. It was cleanliness to the max. The bed was more comfortable than ours at home and I loved the sheets. The woodwork was beautiful. The ceilings and light fixtures breathtaking. We felt we were on the set of Meet Me in St. Louis! It was authentic and full of history but at the same time felt new and current. For instance the bedding and in the dining area, it wasn’t old and fussy, but really upbeat in its clean decor styling. We walked everywhere and enjoyed the outstanding architecture and friendliness of the town. At the Inn they have thought of everything to accommodate a wonderful experience. And the breakfasts were out of this world! It was like going to a five star restaurant! We recommend Kalamazoo House for a memorable getaway for sure! There was a joy like “sunny blue skies” over that house.
