Dar Alouini

A very unique guesthouse located in the heart of the walled city of Kairouan. The guesthouse has a somewhat nondescript front door, but luckily a local saw our struggle to find it and graciously took us to the entrance! We had a rental car, and loved having the option to park in their underground garage for the night. The guesthouse is incredibly unique, tiled walls, a center courtyard, everything was beautiful and very authentic for the area. There also was a small indoor pool/sauna, but we didn't end up using it. The room we had was very clean, and we were provided snacks, fruit, and a bottle of water in our room upon arrival. The only hiccup we experienced was that there were rolling blackouts the night we were there, which knocked the power out for the entire block in the the town. Overall, it lasted probably less than an hour but the manager on duty was incredibly apologetic, going above and behind to help, even bringing candles to our room, and lighting the courtyard with even more candles. The next morning, there was a free breakfast offered. There were options of meats, cheeses, nuts, and bread, etc. As not a huge egg eater with dietary restrictions, I felt bad that a frittata was made for me without ordering it. I only wish they informed us what we were being served and had given us the option whether to have it or not. Oh! there is also a fantastic, very large roof/sitting area with incredible views of the city -- definitely worth checking out. Overall, a super unique stay and the location can't be beat!

So genuinely nice and friendly! The staff went above and beyond to make our 2 night stay wonderful. Everything was clean and spotless. The breakfasts were delicious and lots of choices. Tip: Definitely have dinner as it’s home made and so authentic.

A dream place in Kairouan, if you want to stay in a fairytale palace, this is the place! Extremely kind staff, even if we arrived late in the evening, and the local food - delicious. We were impressed by the cleanliness, good taste, kindness - a basket full of fruits was waiting for us in the room! Thank you for the perfect stay!

A wonderful stay! The rooms are unique, well appointed and very comfortable. The hosts went above and beyond including providing a delicious breakfast. The location is very special, seconds from the Grand Mosque. For anyone visiting Kairouan, you have to stay here!
