Red House Lodge

This hotel is simply amazing - very comfortable, great food, and culturally and historically unique - a must for anyone who is interested in learning about and experiencing the real Kagbeni and the region. The hotel management is very welcoming and eager to accommodate - and all at a very reasonable price.

On the base of Nilgiri( best mountain ever seen), this lodge is quite nice, old caratteristic building, nice and friendly staff, good also the kitcheen, and if an italian say you sure could believe it. if you go Mustang that's the place to stay for a couple night

Stayed here with family in April 2024. Lovely old building in the middle of town. It’s over 400 years old as per the manager/owner and I was surprised how many rooms were present. Definitely makes for an interesting introduction to the Mustang area. Our room was the rooftop Lo Manthang room. Very spacious and easily fits 3 beds, a sofa seating area and has a private bathroom. Views from the windows were awe-inspiring in the morning, with snow clad peaks visible in all directions. Unfortunately the windows mean that it was also very cold in early April…and especially since the sliding entrance door isn’t weather sealed. But thankfully power (generator I assume) was on thru the night and we were comfortable enough. Some small plumbing issues with the bathroom but the staff accommodated us with hot showers in a different room. Food was good, including a “sizzler” at dinner and standard eggs/bread/etc in the morning. WiFi seemed to work as well. Overall this was an atmospheric stay and is possibly the best hotel in town. I wish we had spent more time staying here and exploring the town.

Incredible old rustic monastery building nestled in lovely village of Kagbeni. Staff were super friendly, food was really good, views from the rooftop are amazing, rooms were good albeit basic - ensuite bathroom good, although no hot water. Lines on the roof to dry clothes if needed.

This hotel was a great base for a few days, the staff were very friendly and always on hand to help when they could. The food was great too. As you can expect in the area that there was no heating but all the beds have electric blankets that helped massively.

Red House Lodge is the best place to stay in Kagbeni if one seeks a classic experience in the aged mud-walled town. The iconic red house was once a monastery established long ago. Our room was comfortable, sunny, and decorated in the local style. The food and drink were great, and the inn manager and his staff were most accommodating. I even meditated at sundown in a temple room with a golden Buddha and other icons with a resident grandmother who opened it for prayer. A remarkable experience. Highly recommended.
