奥津荘は国の登録有形文化財に指定されていて施設は古いですが、温泉の泉質は最高クラスです。また、部屋付きの露天風呂には、常に源泉掛け流しの温泉が満たされていて、心ゆくまで温泉を楽しめる。客室数も少なく、貸し切り風呂もいつでも入れるのが嬉しい。部屋は清潔感もあり、雰囲気も良い。料理のレベルも高いので、夕食も朝食も楽しめる。

川底から湧き上がる温泉「立ち湯」と「鍵湯」を目的に利用しました。「鍵湯」は藩主が鍵をかけてしまうほどの温泉で有名ですが、行ってみると私でも鍵をかけたい、黙って大事にしたいと思える温泉でした。客室数も８室で、そのうち２部屋にはお風呂があるようで、滞在中はどのお風呂も独り占め状態でゆったりと楽しめました。 行く前は少し高めのお宿かなと感じましたが行ってみると、温泉は期待以上だし、静かでゆったりとした大人のお宿で、お料理も丁寧さが感じられて、お値段も納得できました。 お宿の周りもちょうどよい散歩コースとなっています。 欲をいうならば、温泉の温度が４２度と高めなので、夏は脱衣所にも飲泉サーバーがあると嬉しいです。 また本館は登録有形文化財に指定されています。文化財に滞在するのを目的とされている場合は、本館のお部屋のみになるのでご注意ください。私たちが利用したお部屋は、渡り廊下でつながった別棟で、こちらは昭和レトロなシンプルなお部屋でした。文化財にこだわらなければ、吉井川を眺めながらマッサージチェア付きで、お掃除の行き届いたお部屋で快適に過ごせます。

I was worried about snow because it was deep in the mountains, but I made it there safely. The building had a nice atmosphere and the hospitality was great. The arrangement of the stones at the bottom of the bath was also interesting.

The staff are very friendly and fluent in English. There is high quality environment and meals. The onsens are spectacular. Rooms are spacious. Near to Okutsu which is famous for red leaves. Highly recommend it to everyone!

This is a ryokan in Okutsu Onsen that is a registered tangible cultural property. It's a small ryokan, but the hot springs and the food were great. The rooms are by the river, and the sound of the water is soothing. The indoor baths are the historic Kagiyu and Tateyu, which are taken in shifts for men and women, and the other two private baths can be used freely if they are available. Kagiyu and Tateyu are precious hot springs that spring from the feet. The atmosphere of the bathrooms is also wonderful. After dinner, we had a great time in the rest lounge opposite the ryokan, where we were served free sake, wine, coffee, etc. It would be even better if we could use it after breakfast. The rooms are old-fashioned, but just right. Munakata Shiko also stayed here, and there are woodblock prints displayed inside the building, creating a calming folk art atmosphere. Okutsu Onsen is quiet and a really nice hot spring.

I saw some negative comments about the service, but from my experience, there was nothing unusual and the hospitality was worthy of a famous hot spring. Although maintaining the baths must be a lot of work, I was grateful to see the hard work of the staff and enjoyed it. The room I stayed in was "Japanese modern," but I arrived while it was still light, so I was able to fully enjoy the building, which is a registered tangible cultural property. Perhaps because it was a weekday, I had all the baths to myself, including the private bath, and was able to enjoy them many times in the evening, late at night, early in the morning, and before checking out. I felt that the two baths, the "Tateyu," which springs from the bottom of the river, and the "Izumi no Yu," with its beautiful stained glass, were truly unique. Each dish was well thought out and the portions were just right, so I was grateful. I would definitely like to come again.
