There is a reason why room rates are under $100 a night and the hotel is up for sale. This is a dumpy old Comfort Inn that was renovated and rebranded to Holiday Inn Express. Everything was done very poorly. A lot of things are missing: 1) Hole in wall 2) Extensive wear-and-tear 3) Things like vending machines are just missing from where they should be and in the room things like lights and lamps are nonexistent. I had one light in my room, the entryway light. No lighting of any kind on the nightstands or in the sitting area. 4) The telephone still had the old Choice Hotels/Comfort Inn branding. 5) No alarm clocks. Cleanliness was below average. There was hair from a previous guest on the nightstand. The bathroom had mold or mildew in the tub area. There was hair on the side of the toilet by the floor. The toilet seat itself and the bathroom countertop were clean or, at least, appeared clean. Basic maintenance isn't being done. Walls or doors need re-painting in some places, carpet is extensively stained, holes in walls could be filled in, etc Zero IHG elite status recognition was nonexistent. I booked a room on a high floor (the hotel has three floors) and received a room on the second floor. No suite upgrade despite my diamond status. At check-in, I didn't get a choice of points or something from the market. Now, the positives: 1) The location is good and feels safe. 2) The breakfast selection is extensive and includes the full range of Holiday Inn Express breakfast options minus any fresh fruit or berries. 3) The gym is small but has good newer equipment. All things considered, it's easy to see why the hotel has $90 nights and is for sale. This property's franchisee cut so many corners in construction and isn't maintaining what they have. If you had to stay in Junction City, there are certainly worse places to stay. I would bring disinfectant wipes and clean everything down in the room before touching any surfaces.
