Stoney Creek Hotel des Moines - Johnston

Room was clean,and comfy. Long wait to check in because rooms weren't clean yet after 3pm. Bar wasn't open to accommodate all the people waiting. My husband and I did sit and play games while we waited. Finally got in and hot tub was too full to use. Breakfast was meh. Pancake machine didn't work. Line was too long to make toast. Breakfast should start earlier in the morning to keep crowds lower. Thankfully they had coffee ready.

We had a great stay! We used to live in Des Moines and now live in Florida. When we come back we like to stay at Stoney Creek. Fun for the kids. Cool pool. Good breakfast. Fun little bar. We even bought eggs one year and did an Easter egg hunt with kids out on their lawn. Cool spot!

The hotel was amazing. The room was spacious even though it wasn’t a suite. It was nicely kept up and clean. The breakfast was good, i did prefer the morning with biscuits and gravy to the bacon and eggs. We didn’t have extra paper products in the room but this was quickly resolved with a call to the front desk. The employees were polite and friendly.

The food was amazing and the rooms were amazing as well best place I have ever been to. The room was nice and clean and the pool was nice as well. The hallways were nice and quite and I love the room decorations they are so cute and cabin like❤ 5 stars

Awesome Staff! The guest services rep at the front desk was so welcoming! The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. However, the hotel needs some maintenance. The hottub only had 2 jets working, the hall carpet needs repair, and there were knobs missing on the dresser. I would stay there again. As we left, the staff wished us safe travels. I love how nice the staff was!

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay for our anniversary. We chose Stoney Creek in Johnston since it had an indoor / outdoor pool and hot tub, and the decor looked pretty nice in the online photos. When we arrived we checked in at the front desk and got our room keys. Our room was just down the hall from the desk on the ground level, so we were pleased with that. Once we got the door open, however, we immediately noticed a smell of what I believe to be a combination of beer and pee. The window was cracked open a bit, too, so it's likely someone was aware of the smell. We decided to check back in with the front desk to see if maybe they could swap us rooms. The staff was very friendly, and told us that they didn't have any more rooms of that style. They then found an upgraded room over in what they call the "cottages" next door at no additional charge. This is an adjacent building that is connected to the hotel via a short pathway. Although we didn't expect them to do an upgrade, it sounded exciting. When we got to the cottages entry way it looked like we had entered a lost or neglected hotel from 10 to 15 years ago. There were chairs stacked off to the left, and what looked like an area where breakfast or drinks would have been served. After we found our room we decided to explore a bit. We found an exercise room that was connected to what they called a game room. The exercise room had 2 treadmills and an old sauna that was broken up inside. The game room had a dart board on the wall that was broken, with no darts around. There was also a shuffleboard table that had one end of it broken where the pucks would fly onto the floor. The whole area was dingy and dirty, and looked like no one had been in there to maintain the place for quite some time. The room itself was ok. It was also a bit dingy and worn. It did have a massage chair that my wife liked. Other than that the room was basically the same as the previous room. Unfortunately, the walls were super thin, and we could hear someone in the room next to us coughing and snoring all night. We had to pull up a sleep app on the wife's phone to have some white noise to drown out the snoring. I would certainly have been disappointed if I had paid extra for this upgrade. After we stayed the first night we realized that no breakfast or other activities take place at the cottages. Everything takes place at the main building. We ended up having breakfast one morning over there. It was good, and the staff was friendly. After breakfast we took off and went shopping for most of the day. When we returned later that night we realized that we hadn't had any maid services. We could have used some extra towels and Kleenex, but we made it work. Honestly, the cottages area needs a complete remodel, and the whole concept needs to be re-thought. I certainly would not stay there again, and if I had paid extra I'd be a bit upset.
