Exceptional experience. My main aim was to see the stars in the night sky above the Thar desert. S it happened, the day of my visit was one of the heaviest rainstorms in a decade, and there was only cloud. However, the fabulous host Sapna, a botanist and former journalist, made the stay incredibly memorable, regaling me with tales of her career, the business, the local community and dreams of the future. The food was delicious - all home made, and much of it locally foraged. The rooms are all designed according to a local desert botanical - mine was desert cotton. It was minimalist in a way that perfectly complemented the surroundings - but with bespoke furniture and luxe textiles. Absolutely gorgeous. The highlights were the desert botanical walk, where Sapna explained much of the local flora, and the live music performed by an 80 year old traditional Rajasthani musician. Mesmerising and wonderful. I cannot recommend Kaner highly enough for a quiet, relaxing break from the world.
