Alpine Gables

After some plans changed due to illness our stay was put on hold. The re-booking of the new date was done easily, without hassles and to the date required. This was much appreciated. The rooms are plenty big and comfortable. Park-up and walk to the pub! This is our go-to place when in Jindabyne. Thanks you.

Location: It's about as good as you get in Jindabyne. You're right across the street from the Nuggets Crossing Shopping Centre (with Woolworths and a variety of restaurants). The lake is pretty much right across the highway. Room: We had a split-level loft with a queen bed on the ground floor and a full bed and bunk bed on the loft level. More than enough for my family of 4. Our room was on the ground floor which was extremely helpful (I probably would not have been as happy if we were on the upper floor). Room had a full-kitchen with microwave, electric griddle, mini-fridge, slow cooker, hot pot, and dishware/cutlery. There was also complimentary coffee, milk, hot chocolate and biscuits. Be mindful that the room is also stocked with snacks and a mini-bar in the fridge. These are not free. The room was a bit dated, but that wasn't an issue at all. It was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed - that's all that mattered. Amenities: there is an on-site restaurant/bar, but we didn't get to try it. There is a nice lobby area with a fireplace. Be sure to ask the reception for a 20% discount card to The Base Ski Rental about a half kilometer down the road if you plan on hiring any gear. Parking is free and plentiful. Overall, it was a great stay. It was a bit pricey, but considering we booked last minute during winter season, it was a great value relative to the other options in Jindabyne. And the room definitely had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Also, the woman at the reception was extremely nice and helpful.

I think this place cops a bad rap for no good reason. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room is big, comfortable and clean. It has every thing you need. The beds were firm but we love a firm bed and slept really well there. Shower was hot and strong. Bathroom was lovely and fresh. The little Brumby bar next door is a great bar to wind down in. Terrific steaks, great friendly service and excellent atmosphere. We only saw Matt at our stay at Gables and he was friendly and kind, despite being extremely busy. We had to cut our trip short and come back to Sydney but would not hesitate to return. It's in a great area in the village and we enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks Alpine Gables. We will be back....don't take any notice of the whingers.

Got caught out with car issues, and needed a room urgently. Being a busy opening weekend I thought my chances were slim. My email was answered within 30 minutes and Mat advised he had 1 room left. He and his team were exemplary from the start, the room was warm and comfy, great big TV, a useful kitchenette - and it was a only 2 minute walk to Nuggett's Crossing. Can't recommend Alpine Gables enough - it's rare to experience such genuine hospitality, especially in a time of real need - rather than the all too often forced smile approach. Think they have about 45 rooms, with a warm and inviting interior filled with different artworks and a central lounge area off the lobby. I'll be back.

The blankets are never washed they are feral sheets often not changed either. Fridge feral , owner doesn’t pay her staff superannuation 9 managers in one year, staff have to go to FWO to get paid nasty owners

You can’t fault the location, but the venue has seen it’s day many years ago. No air conditioning in summer means you will sweat your backside off. Perhaps they need to understand that the snowy region is no longer just a winter destination. For the price you pay, whilst not in the upper regions, you would expect basic air conditioning. Our room was a superior loft room and a word of caution, if you stay in these rooms, you are at the top of the hotel with no elevator access, all stairs which, when you’re getting a little older could be challenging. The rooms were clean enough however the shower area was showing distinct signs of mould or mildew with grout disappearing in spots. All in all, whilst the views were pretty good, if you excuse the petrol station across the road, we probably wouldn’t stay here again.

I found it to be a difficult place to find when driving (when I arrived in Jindabyne coming from Canberra). Their driveway and entrance is not in Clyde Street. But off Kalkite Street close to the first of two roundabouts in Jindabyne. There needs to be better signage. As there wasn't any along Kalkite Street. That tall sign with XXXX GOLD beer at the top with a very small Alpine Gables sign underneath to the right, is more noticeable if continuing straight on to Kosciuszko Road towards Thredbo and Charlotte Pass. But not when you leave Kosciuszko Road (coming from Canberra or Cooma) to take the first exit on the left on to Kalkite Street. For all you know it could be a big bottle shop. The loft room was alright. In good condition and clean. The cupboard contained a steam iron and ironing board. The kitchen cupboards contained a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and a toaster. Foods and beverages in the little fridge and in the bowl on the kitchen counter each have a cost if consumed. Reception close early - 5 or 7 PM, from memory. Quite a few dead flies on the carpet on the carpeted stairwell outside the rooms. Speaking of which, Woolworths at the close by Nuggets Crossing shopping precinct is not noticeable from the exterior of whichever entrance or road you come from. It is located deep within a rectangle like outline. Either way, to find it there are two different passageways or corridors at either the front or back surrounding car parks. Coming from Snowy River Avenue, there is a open corridor about half way or two thirds along where the back shop fronts are, once past the corridor, turn left with steps below, then turn right. Other tourists also had difficulty finding Woolworths. If coming from the main car park at the right end of Nuggets Crossing off Kosciuszko Road, turn left after the corridor. Pass a wooden kangaroo in triangular form.

Giving 1 star to this review is a gross misrepresentation of the experience we had, however, minus-stars aren’t available. We unfortunately just spent 5 nights at this sham of an establishment, in a horrid room, that wasn’t serviced once during our stay. After 3 days I informed the front desk that we were still yet to receive a service on our room and could we get some fresh towels please. They didn’t ever arrive! On the same evening I decided to leave our overflowing bin in the hallway in the Hope that it might be emptied for us. We ran out of toilet paper on day 4 and used their tissues instead. The room was disgusting with a weird smell in it, however I was already informed they were at capacity so good luck changing. The bathroom had tiles off the wall and there was a strange liquid that had run down the wall (see images). I’ve stayed here many times over the years but I will never, ever be back. Reception wasn’t even open at 10am when we left so I could inform them of how poor they were. Do yourself a favour and go nowhere near this pathetic excuse of a hotel.
