Desert Dream Royal Camp

Great accommodation and friendly staff. Be aware that the property is 50K outside of Jaisalmer. The address on the booking site is their downtown office, 20 minutes form the fort. You will need to book transportation to and from the camp.

Hii All, We had visited this place 14 January 2025. The night stay and night entertainment activities, food were good. However, our package was inclusion of camel riding but not for Jeep safari. After checkin to their camp, when we enquired about the evening Jeep safari and other activities, the front desk person took us inside the room and explained separately about their services with royal brochures saying that, they offer night safari and stay under the stars etc which would incur additional 14 K. When we told him that we do not require any royal services, just want to go for Desert jeep safari and camel riding, he said 5K for three of us. When we asked him that when our package does includes camel safari price, then why we should pay additional 5 K? Then he fooled us saying that charges are only to take camel ride inside the campus where we stayed not in the main DESERT. We told him that outside private services are giving at a reasonable cost for 200 to 500/- pp, for jeep safari and why can't he give it for the same price. Then he said, he scared us saying if we go out and opt outside service, there is no good hope of returning to his camp safely. They may take us in the middle of desert and leave us no where. Then he gave us time to rethink about it and decide. He said if we delay in giving him confirmation for Jeep safari, we may not able to enjoy the sun set and other activities in the desert. After a deep dive negotiation with him, finally he ended up charging us quoting the final price for both camel riding and jeep safari at the cost of Rs.1100/- per person. My question is here, since we already paid for camel riding at the time of booking, why we have to pay again him extra at his camp for the camel riding? If the guests are opting for camel safari inside the desert NOT at his camp, he has to refund the amount to guests which he had taken for camel riding during booking time. But these information are not given on their website and they have added camel riding price for their each package, which shows in the total amount, which customers will finally pay thinking that the final price inclusion of stay plus camel riding. When we check their website, they have given the information on Jeep safari cost is Rs.500 to 700 pp, whereas at his camp, he is charging more than 1000/- pp. This is unfair practice for the management to collect extra payment from the tourists as innocent people without arguing with the management, end up paying extra money how much ever they asks, without any other option and without compromising on the peace of mind during their visit. I sincerely request the resort management not to indulge this type of looting the money by scaring the people. Be fair on prices of the each activities and put the same on your website so that tourist will be aware of the approximate amount to pay for these activities.

Easier access to desert

Cheated at the property - INR 60,000 for 2 jeeps for desert safari-3 hours. We were there for one night and had to agree to whatever rates they asked. With children who had come this far to see desert we had to agree to the exorbitant rate. The property manager insisted this was the fair cost. We did later check with others in Jaisalmer that this shouldn’t have been more than 10,000 per jeep. I have been following up with the property but they ignore. Please avoid this place as you can get much cheaper jeep rides

Stay by the dunes The camp is by the sand dunes and convenient for activities such as camel and jeep safari and atv and parasailing etc. Room was clean and hotel common areas were clean. During winter there is no heating in the room so bring extra clothes, hotel is happy to provide heated blankets if needed. There is ac in room for summer months. There is evening entertainment with snacks and coffee/chai. Dinner and breakfast included in stay as well. It is a bit of distance from town so recommend doing town activities before heading to camp or after.

We booked this stay and a week before our trip we got a mail saying the resort is under maintenance and we were being accommodated in a new resort (Marubhumi) . So as the mail mentioned we went to the other resort , it was so humiliating as they didn’t know anything about this and we weren’t notified that we had to go to Desert Dream . Once we went to Desert Dream ,we had a surprise waiting . We had booked an Oman family room as mentioned in their website with 2 king size bed and we got a room with a single king size bed and a single cot ( we were 5) . It was very disappointing.It is good. Also add about the many add ons The staff though friendly, the management kept insisting on paying extra for each and everything. There was no mention of a paid dinner for new year's eve while booking but they insisted on us paying a fee to get dinner. They even asked us to pay extra for ordering empty glasses to the room. We had to argue for each and every amenity which we did get eventually but did not like the way we received it. Overall, the stay didn't justify the price we paid for it.
