Wild Dunes Resort - Residences at Sweetgrass

We had a wonderful time at Wild Dunes not just because of the location but also because of the amazing staff at Wild Dunes. We combined a mini vacation with college tour. It was a busy weekend of weddings but Terri found us a perfect room. The night manager at Sweetgrass Inn, Mason was immensely helpful going out of his way to get us access to the bikes that had been reserved since we didn’t make it to the bike shop before they closed. Phillisia not only helped facilitate that but she also greeted us all weekend by name. We felt so special at Wild Dunes.

I’m so glad I disregarded the negative reviews and booked at Sweetgrass. Upon arrival, we noticed the area was crowded but a valet was with us in just a couple of minutes. He was VERY helpful and genuinely accommodating. The poor guys run everywhere but you can see them smiling behind their masks and eager to help. At check in, I asked if there were any larger rooms available — when I booked the largest was a 450 sq ft. room with two queen size beds. Reception was extremely helpful and upgraded us to a 1350 sq ft. suite with a full kitchen, living room, and huge corner balcony that overlooked the ocean! We were also given a $100 voucher to spend on anything at the resort 😱 The kids in our family of five were excited when they saw the suite, and I was stoked the kitchen had anything we would likely need. We were able to have a really nice dinner on our balcony that night. Speaking of food, while there aren’t a lot of options on property(yet), I was pleasantly surprised to see a local food truck at the pool and local restaurant Coastal Crust downstairs. The hostess there was always kind, kept smiling, and order times were perfect (exactly 15 minutes). They did an excellent job mitigating the crowd. The pools definitely had a lot of kids, so I would recommend more for a family. However, a separate area of the hotel boasts an adult only pool. Of note, every staff member we came across was gracious and genuinely helpful. It was not uncommon to be randomly asked if we needed anything, which is hard to find in the time of COVID. Overall I would definitely recommend.

We travel here annually and I like to leave a review to see how things compare year to year. There are many different options to stay in when coming to this resort but the beauty of it is that no matter where you stay you can use the amenities at all the others. The range of amenities is far too long to mention but suffice it to say you really will never be bored. Even the day we had clouds and temps that were a little cooler than normal we kept busy( bike rentals, beach walk’s etc). You can typically tell how well an employer treats their employees based on their longevity with that employer. It is no different at Wild Dunes. This resort was purchased by Hyatt a number of years ago and they still retain employees with some over 20 years. Treating employees right has resulted in employees treating their guests right! Richard, Bobby and Tye are on the Valet staff and have been there for years ( yes parking cars and lugging bags everyday and they’re still there for years and years)! Bobby at Hudson’s ( coffee shop) has been there for years and Carol at the Boardwalk front desk has been there over 20 years! Even their newest employees seem to excel at customer service right from the start. Boipelo is a young lady at the front desk of Sweetgrass. She excels at customer service and has been there less than a year! I could go on and on but the message is no matter where at the resort the employees excel at customer service. Employee retention based on treating employees right in this case results in great customer service for guests.
