Our Doune Braes stay was good with some room for improvement. First the Highlights - excellent service from friendly and helpful staff , very good quality of food at dinner and breakfast , nice ambience in the restaurant , large double bedroom that was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable, and easy parking. Room for improvement - the decor and furniture in the bedroom is very dated and the dinner menu choices started off being limited and become even more limited when 2 of the menu items ran out. I would have rated this as 3 stars but the excellent staff pushes it to 4 stars. We will be back.

This small hotel somehow takes you back to Interrailing in the seventies. Everything is from them, like the bathroom with it´s plastic floor, the narrow bed, the colors etc. The bed is kind of terrible, very hard, narrow and moves as soon as your partner moves. But the hotel was still ok because the people working there are just lovely and nice and also seem to have fun together which somehow flows over to the guests. Food very basic but home cooked and ok. All in all an ok stay

The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food is excellent with a decent choice and there is a lot of it! The homemade soup was very tasty. The rooms are small but we were out exploring during the day so not important. We really enjoyed our stay.

Stayed on a stop off up north. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. The room could do with some TLC with some worn fittings and fixtures. The shower could have done with a better clean, however the room was cosy and quiet. Breakfast was lovely and made to order in a lovely typically Scottish dining room overlooking the loch.

Had a lovely few days at the Doune Braes Hotel. As other reviewers have intimated there are things that could be updated, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfasts excellent and the staff couldn't do more to make your stay an enjoyable one, going the extra mile at every opportunity, they were brilliant! The location is very good too, for getting to all points on this big island. All in all a great stay at the Doune Braes.

We went in for a few pints simply because there is no other pub or bar near by. It is a very old and outdated building in need of refurbishment, toilets were awful Cannot comment on the rooms but whole place looks uninviting. I agree with what another person wrote that they only survive because there is no competition.

What an absolute pleasure to drop in for refreshments at the Doune Braes…….the welcome we received from the minute we walked in was so lovely….friendly lady on reception who got our table and refreshments ( pints) but hey….there’s a lot of walking and hills on Lewis 😉….we sat and talked with the owner Eileen and she was so helpful telling us the best places to visit and what was happening locally…..the menu looked amazing but we couldn’t stay to sample it unfortunately but we will be back….I especially loved the local artwork which is dotted around the conservatory, absolutely made my day seeing how much effort is put into this magical isle by the local people. What a beautiful way of life these islands have x
