Amara Cay Resort

Stayed here many times (7) in recent years but as often happens under new ownership, standards and value go down. Not the place it was. The check in staff are totally disinterested in customer service, sheets/ bedding had tears and holes in them. We needed a room with a convertible sofa bed and were told we had to make up the bed ourselves as housekeeping wouldn’t do it! Strange but true, so after waiting over two hours for staff to bring sheets and pillows we made up the bed and went out to dinner. Standards are certainly going down in this establishment and in fact the only thing going up is the ‘resort’ fee currently standing at $40 per night. Absolutely ridiculous charge for what is on offer. Certainly not worth the room rates so avoid! In case the hotel quibble about my comment regarding the bedding I will attach a couple of photos.

Ameracay is a very nice resort. It's not too far and easily accessible. It gas a nice tiki brand beach as well as a very nice courtyard with game areas and firepits. The resort is in an area that has iguanas. These are harmless if left alone. Make sure yiu balcony door is shut so a curious iguana does not visit. You also should ve aware that in case of a cold snap, iguanas fall from trees. As long as they don't hit you in the head again they are harmless. Visited the outside bar fi a sandwich. Everything in the Keys cost more so prices are moderate. We shared a sandwich with no issues. The lobby area is very nice with suspended swinging chairs. Decorations are "islandish" which is appropriate. There is a selfie wall which has keys mounted. There is also a wall mounted magnetic Scrapple game. There are nice restaurants within walking distance. Both Midway and Lazy Boys were busy. If you go out for dinner, expect moderate wait. Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. The resort has a very snLl gift shop. Not much for men unless you need a bathing suit. The only problem was the entire area was having water issues. There was no hot water in the room. I would stay again. It's about half the cost of staying in Key West. There are places very close by if you want to plY in, on, or under the water. It may be possible to book a ride out to Alligator Reef Lighthouse via a service near by. Lots of places to hop on a fishing boat. The water off Islamadora is a nationally protected coral reef. Make sure you know what you can and can't do on the reef. The resort does not allow drone flying on property. You might be able to fly from a nearby bridge. I will probably visit again.

Very clean and spacious rooms with comfortable beds . Hotel ambience had a Chic and fun vibe. Friendly attentive staff.

Came to the property at 11 AM knew that it was too early to check in but showed up at the front desk. Let them know that we’re here, and we got our wristband. Britney at the front desk said they would call us when the rooms were ready. We had two rooms booked both with two queen beds because we were traveling with kids around 3 o’clock, I received the phone call saying that they oversold the hotel and they had no rooms for us available for us and that they have to move us to a sister property. No compensation was offered not even a complimentary breakfast. We spent 2 hours going from hotel to hotel. We went to the other property in which when we got to the rooms, it was one bed with no couch or anything else for the kids so we had and switch rooms again. We were traveling as a family and had to stay in different buildings across the resort from each other. We were not able to spend the time that we originally wanted to spend together. I would never stay at this hotel again!!! be advised!! Also the hotel that we were moved to charge us again for the rules. So basically we were charged twice for the room that we did not get.

Everything was wonderful and better than we anticipated! But the best part was the cabana we rented for a day and Todd! He was assigned to us for the day and let me tell you...He is amazing!! So incredibly attentive, friendly and just simply awesome! From the moment he introduced himself it was like we were spending the day at a good friends house! He 100% made the day perfect, completly stress free and relaxing! Thank you Todd!!

Our family of 6 had a great stay. We stayed in 2 rooms on the 4th floor with partial water view. Our favorite parts were the location of the hotel, room balcony, access to the bikes, the rum runner water taxi, the pool and the tiki bar. We could bike to many restaurants and explore the area. The tiki bar had a great happy hour from 4-6 where we had the most delicious cocktails. As we were checking out, all of the pool and beach chairs were being replaced with upgraded chairs. Just a few picky things - the room fridge was small and not very cold, the gym was run down and the morning coffee bar was average. We bought a cooler and kept it filled with ice to keep our food and drinks cold. We look forward to visiting again.
