We had a very relaxing 2 night deal here that included dinner one night, afternoon tea one day, plus tickets to Dunnotar Castle. It is a stunning hotel with welcoming and comfortable furniture and our room was very well appointed. There are some decor issues but it didn’t affect us. All the staff were very friendly, cheerful, attentive and helpful. The hotel is purported to be 4* but the food let it down. The dinner menu has limited choice, made worse by being told the blade of beef was not available and the chicken didn’t come with dauphinois potatoes. At breakfast on the second morning the poached egg yolk was hard and the scrambled egg had no taste. At breakfast on the third morning the bacon was dry and the tatty scones were like leather, and again the fried egg yolks were hard. We would need to see an improvement in the catering before we consider staying again.

I booked a family afternoon tea at Pittodrie House to celebrate my sister’s 86th birthday. I was very disappointed when we arrived to be told there was no record of my booking. The staff member sent us to sit in the bar ( no staff there) so she could investigate and talk to the chef. After waiting a while we were then told the chef said we actually could have afternoon tea and we were escorted through to a table where I was shown a piece of paper with a handwritten record of my booking which had been made for the 27th of May- 4 weeks later than the date I requested. We were offered complimentary drinks however an acknowledgment and simple apology for the mix up would have helped ease the very uncomfortable situation. I do understand that errors can be made but the off hand non apologetic manner in which we were dealt was not pleasant. Despite being made to feel an inconvenience the actual afternoon tea was nice - on a lovely sunny day in a lovely setting.

We came for afternoon tea today and the service was ok. The food itself was fine but the service should be improved on. We needed to find staff to ask for drinks and when asking if we could order some other food for the 2 kids we had with us they said it wasn’t possible. One of the staff members was pretty short when asking for an additional drink we had forgotten to ask for at first. Stating “you’ll need to wait for that” yes we realise we wouldn’t have the drink immediately and it would need to be prepared. No one explained what each of the cake / sandwiches etc were - I know that isn’t a big issue but it’s touches like this that bring better customer service and you would be more inclined to come back / recommend to others. The surroundings are very nice and the room itself was a nice setting but unfortunately I don’t think any of us would rush back.

Ok, but wouldn't stay again. The setting for this hotel was amazing, the building and grounds were lovely, but once inside the hotel is very tired, i know its old and probably part of its old charm but tread bare carpets and broken bathroom floor tiles plus stains on the bedroom carpet in my opinion really lets it down plus the breakfast at £25 a head is really below par.

Dinner menu a bit restricted and £25 for breakfast a bit steep with no continental option .
