Our first time exploring Cape Breton and we made this our base for a few days. We were expecting it be rustic and it sure was - a real old-style beach cabin. The plumbing had a few issues but it delivered hot water no problem. The kitchen is the front entry so a bit crowded. Still, we had a great stay. The porch and picture window allows for great views of the sunset and lighthouses at night. Colin was helpful with our reservation when we needed to change. It seemed a bit over-priced for what it was but in line with other properties in the area.

Quaint cottages located on Route 19 overlooking Port Hood Beach. Perfect spot to go recharge and relax. Located close to Mabou, Inverness and beautiful scenery on a drive or walk. About 30-40 minutes from Canso Causeway. Cottages located minutes from grocery/convenience stores, pharmacy, bank and NSLC. Colin (Owner) is super easy to deal with and staff are awesome.

Very comfortable cabin with a fine view of the ocean. Our hosts were very accommodating. The tourist season was basically over so restaurant options were few but the local Coop was extremely well-stocked and the cabin kitchen was as well. Port Hood is a lovely, quiet town. We loved beachwalks right in front of the cabins and great sunsets!

Little slice of heaven! Cottage was exceptionally clean and well stocked. It even had a BBQ. There was a grocery store and fish coop close by to gather food for meals. Close walk to an amazing beach for walking, swimming and collecting sea glass. The sunrise and sunsets are spectacular from the Adirondack chairs at the cottage. Colin the owner was welcoming and helpful. Wish we could have spent more time in the area. Would highly recommend the lighthouse cottages to unplug, relax by the sea and recharge.

This was a return visit for us. The cottages are clean, comfortable and nicely situated above the beautiful beach. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. Great attention was paid to our comfort and all of our needs. We would highly recommend these accommodations.

Extremely disappointed with the place, beautiful landscape, you can go to the ocean and swim there. Once in the cabin in the evening, bugs started coming out of everywhere in the cabin, earwigs, spiders we killed about 40 earwigs, there were some in the bed, on the walls, desks, etc. was awful! we even had some in our luggage! Finding another hotel is not recommended.

Recently stayed here for three nights on a trip back home to NS. I chose this accommodation based solely on the location, as I loved coming to the beach in front of these cottages growing up. So the location for me is an absolute 5/5. You can walk down to the sandy beach on a short path just in front of the cottages. We stayed in unit #9 which just had a window AC unit put in before our arrival and that worked great. The kitchen was well equipped with a full stove and fridge, plates, glasses, utensils, coffee maker...etc. It did have pots but no oven pans so we couldnt really bake anything in the oven. There is a bakery (Sandeannie) just a couple minutes down the road that sells frozen homemade meals (in what looked like oven ready tin foil containers). If i had of known that I would have just purchased our suppers there and baked them in the cottage. They also have fresh bread and baked goods, preserves etc. There is a Coop grocery store also within minutes with everything you needed and I found the prices the same as anywhere else really. We did go to Mabou to eat at The red shoe pub (FYI on Friday nights they have live music ...a fiddle player and piano duo ... $10 per person cover added to your dinner bill) a decent spot... a little on the pricey side but only 12 minute drive if you did not want to cook. The front check in staff were friendly to book and check in, but other than when we brought our towels up to office once for changing we didnt really see any staff on our three nights/four days there. The only thing that was disappointing was I called ahead the day before to add our teenager and they amended our bill to add an extra $30/night but didnt even put an extra towel in for her so on our first night there the three of us had to share two towels. To be honest, Im not sure I understand the justification of charging for kids/ youth, perhaps its a deterrent to detract families with kids? Cause there were only older couples the three nights we were there. While I appreciated the quiet 'kid free' setting, I found the extra $90 plus tax to have our daughter stay with us in our cottage a bit much. I mean there is no daily housekeeping so no one is coming to make up an extra bed or anything. Otherwise, a nice spot. If you are looking for a great location and a quiet place to unwind and you don't need fancy new furniture or anything than this is the place for you.

We enjoyed three nights with our kids at these cottages in July. Service was awesome and the beach was right at our fingertips. The view was beautiful and the cottage had everything we needed. We will be back!
