The George Hotel

We love everything about this iconic and historical hotel! Sam, the proprietor of this boutique hotel is so helpful and friendly and his staff sees to your every request! It’s beautiful, welcoming and we highly suggest you choose them for your stay in Inverary!

Had a lovely experience at the George Restaurant. Never booked a table and the lovely staff squeezed us in. Was served by a lovely Gentleman named Raphael, catered very well to our needs and was a polite young boy. Food was delicious, no fault whatsoever. Beautiful interior aswell. 10/10. Thank you.

Visited the George hotel for an evening meal with my wife whilst staying in Inverary for 3 nights. We were not aware but this was the first night under new ownership which could have been gamble but we were not disappointed. Very friendly staff and the owners young sons (around 12 years old) helping out which we thought was great to see. Thai mussels were very good as a starter and the Peterhead fish supper did not leave much room for dessert. We did manage to share a cheesecake though. Next visit we will try staying here as well. Overall great value, quality pub grub. Well worth a visit. Good luck to the new ownership.

I visited with my partner hoping to enjoy the traditional pub atmosphere, but we were extremely disappointed by the attitude of some of the male staff members—both towards us as customers and towards their colleagues. The initial greeting felt rushed, and I was even sighed at, which left a poor first impression. I can only assume this was due to the restaurant being somewhat busy, but it was still unprofessional. While waiting at the bar for a table, we decided to leave after witnessing an older gentleman shouting at a member of staff, followed by dismissive eye-rolling from the bar staff. This created a very uncomfortable environment. We had heard positive things about the venue from friends, but perhaps this was before the change in ownership. Unfortunately, we did not experience anything positive during our visit.

We arrived at The George to a lovely welcome from the reception staff who went out of their way to make sure we had all the information we needed,she took her time despite being very busy with the musical festival taking place. Our room was one of the largest we have ever stayed in with a huge super comfortable bed with views over the Loch and a beautiful free standing bath in the corner of the room. We had delicious meal of oysters Scallops and one of the nicest cheese boards with a great selection of cheeses cold grapes and a quince chutney. Our service was exceptional with our waitress looking after us very well throughout the meal. Atmosphere was brilliant with a band playing some cracking tunes. Although the band was in full swing we didn’t hear anything in our room(room 35). After a great nights sleep we were greeted by a very chirpy and helpful woman in the breakfast room and I had the most delicious smoked salmon and scrambled eggs-it’s very easy to mess up a scrambled egg-these were cooked to perfection also excellent coffee which is hard to come by in many hotels. We are already planning our return-Thank you to all at The George for a much needed recharge of batteries we certainly felt looked after.

Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by a lovely young lady who said she would get her manager to seat us. However, as soon as she finished speaking to me, she was spoken to in an appallingly rude manner. I was shocked that this kind of behaviour was displayed so openly in front of a customer. From what I witnessed, she was simply doing her job by greeting me, yet she was yelled at, told not to touch the computer, and then shooed away. It was unprofessional and uncomfortable to watch. When the man finally addressed me and asked how he could help, I requested a table for four. Despite the dining room being completely empty, I was told they “might not be able to squeeze us in” because we hadn’t booked. For a main stopover town where many people pass through unexpectedly, refusing a table in an empty room is simply ridiculous. We were hesitant to stay after seeing the way the young lady was treated, but as we were hungry and already there, we decided to proceed. On our way out, we overheard the same man in a blue shirt remarking about us, complaining that people should “use common sense and book ahead.” This level of arrogance and disdain toward paying customers is unacceptable. I will never return, and I strongly advise anyone seeking a pleasant meal in a welcoming atmosphere to visit The Inveraray Inn instead—they are far more accommodating, friendly, and professional.
