Holiday Inn Cleveland-S Independence

Great stay- recommended

The only way this hotel is 4 stars is if you were comparing it to sleeping in your car. I arriced in town early at 12,30 & asked if I could check in early and was met with a very rude woman. The woman told me no rooms were ready very rudely, she didnt take any time to look what rooms might have been done & ready, what room I might have been looking for, or even my name she just replied rudely to come back at 3;00. I've never had a major hotel chain not let me check in early, especially since it was an hour and a half after everyone had checked out & the fact that she didnt even check to see. This is a strong relflection of management who just doesnt care. Everything we had sat in our hot car as I had to go somewhere until 6,30 that night. When i returned to check in that evening the new staff were much more polite but it went downhill on the trip to the room. The carpets in the hallways were filthy with food & paper all over them, i thought maybe it was temporary but they never vacuumed the hallways our entire stay, and the carpet was bubbling up and coming off. In the room it got worse. We got a standard king room; the whole room was humid and smelled funny. The carpet was weirdly damp, sticky and dirty. The bathroom toilet lid was stained yellow & the tub chipped & stained. In the bedroom there was a very obvious stain on the celing from a past or present water leak causing black mold. For ammenities they had dove bathroom products which is fine, no breakfast which isnt great as it is standard in the midwest but I knew that when booking, & only one side of the bed had a charger for phones. The bed was clean & comfotable but there were no additional pillows in the rooms or sheets for the fold out sofa bed, we had to request them and still werent provided with pillows for it. The room had a mini fridge but no microwave which again is standard so you couldnt even heat up some water for tea. The pool was clean & decent sized but they had it roped in half so you couldnt swim laps so not really useful for adults. I travel to the area 2-3 tines a year to visit family & what you get for the price compared to other hotels in the area i feel this place is garbage.

Shell checked us in and she was by herself. It was extremely busy that weekend and she kept her cool and was very helpful
