HHuppertDavidThe Kafusi Lodge is newly renovated and very clean. The guests have access to a spacious living with comfortable couches facing a flat screen TV. We had the choice of buying and cooking our own food in a fully equipped kitchen, or ordering a breakfast of eggs, sausage, beans, bread, coffee, or tea for only $10 per person. The manager, Jiyane, picked us up at the airport and personally guided us through the town Victoria Falls and surrounding areas making our experience wonderful and informative. Zimbabwe does use American dollars and some excursions are a bit pricey, but overall I recommend this destination and lodge to anyone interested in seeing this world-renowned waterfall.
GGuest UserThe owner’s daughter runs this beautiful, intimate Lodge. She personalizes your visit by personally recommending and arranging all activities in the Victoria Falls region. Further, she maintains a culture of personal care and nurturing of the guests with her young, smiling, welcoming staff. From reception to room staff, kitchen, maintenance and drivers; all are friendly and address each guest by the first name. I could not recommend this accommodation more. There are larger, more expensive and more sprawling lodges in the area, but it’s improbable that you could find better service anywhere. This is a five star review. Bravo.
The hotel was clean, has a wonderful vulture show at 1pm where they feed the vultures, great view of a watering hole and staff is excellent. Housekeeping came into the room every evening pulled the mosquito netting around the bed and sprayed the room. We did have a few issues. We made reservations for dinner at the restaurant and when we arrived we were told they did not get have the reservation. My husband told the bar manager who said she would handle it and I was at the bar when she was handling the reservation. I suspect that they did not lose our reservation but could not honor it for other reasons. I certainly was not happy about that. They also did not have reservations for a another party that was also traveling with us. The a/c is adequate and the key is to turn on the a/c and the ceiling fan. I would suggest to have laundry done somewhere else as there was a ”grease spot” on a shirt that was returned from laundry. I was able to remove the spot with soap and water. Additionally we were there with a tour and another couples luggage on our tour ended up on the wrong bus even though it was properly labeled. Very nice hotel but has some caveats.
GGuest UserIt is indeed a century-old luxury hotel built by British colonists. It shows aristocratic temperament everywhere, low-key atmosphere, thoughtful and meticulous service. The black brother guides you to a special living room for check-in, and sends you wet wipes and lemonade. The back garden of the hotel is facing the waterfall bridge. The most wonderful thing is to enjoy the mist rising from the waterfall while drinking English afternoon tea.
Gwango Heritage sits about 5 minutes drive from the Hwange Main Gate and is within easy reach from Victoria Falls/Airport. Drive about 150km in a straight line passed beautiful Zimbabwean countryside, take a right, then drive circa another 15 minutes and your there Seriously, that easy!! The hotel is much, much better than the two stars it may have. This is a countryside paradise with beautifully presented accommodation in the mist tranquil of settings. The main hotel area has an elevated pool overlooking a waterhole which is visited by herds of elephants. Sun loungers with a lounge area with elegant furniture and comfy sofas. Great WiFi in this area, the main reception and restaurants. Some rooms may pick up WiFi (but I doubt it). Seriously not an issue though. Ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner. Really enjoyed the food (I'm veggie). Seemed to be enough on the menu for regular dietary considerations too. No need to 'rush out' to the park too early. Gate opens at 7 and you'll virtually drive straight in. No queues like Kruger (just a point worth noting). There are multiple options for game drives that the hotel can organise seamlessly. Rather than a long day from Victoria Falls, stay overnight and do 2 days in Hwange (just a thought). Finally, rooms are very cosy, comfy beds and plenty of hot water. No TV (thankfully) and internet is limited to common areas Not unusual in places that are not 'mainstream'. I would stay here again in a minute and wish I stayed a couple of more days. Thanks to all the really kind and friendly staff who effortlessly made our stay a truly excellent one.
Bedbugs. Along with several people who travelled with me, I am not enjoying the aftermath of rooms with bedbugs. We thought they were mosquito bites at first, but the grouping and large discoloured red areas on the skin are caused by bedbugs. The heat and extreme itch are more severe than symptoms connected to mosquito bites.
LLisaMcCoyMy Experience at A’Zambezi was really amazing. I felt at home and the place is very beautiful. The staff members are very helpful, polite and friendly. I can write an almost essay about their good services. I highly recommend this hotel.
AAnonymous UserBetter than expected, the room is not very new, but it is not as bad as expected, and the price is very reasonable.
The room is not big, and two large chairs block the balcony door, making it necessary to turn sideways to enter and exit the balcony. Not a big problem.
The bathroom is spacious, but the bathtub has to be climbed in and out, and it leaks easily. There is no hair dryer and the bath water is not big.
I didn't have breakfast, but I guess the basics are there. There is a free shuttle bus in the town that can go to the entrance of Waterfall Park. You can also contact a taxi yourself or call one from the hotel. . They still want to charge me 6 dollars, even though the market price is 5 dollars.
The hotel pick-up fee was NT$30, and later I found a driver myself for NT$25. And the hotel bill must be checked clearly. I obviously only booked airport pick-up, but the taxi bill charged me 60, which is quite shameful!
AautumncsThe location is excellent, as the place is very close to the town centre. OK supermarket is only a 5 minute walk, the Pick n Pay supermarket is a 10 minute walk and the Victoria Falls park entrance is a 20 minute walk. I stayed in a private room with fan and bathroom. There is a mosquito net surrounding the bed to keep out mosquitoes. I can access wifi from my room. Wifi speed is reasonable most of the time but may become slow in the evening when most of the guests are back. The electrical sockets in my room accept UK-style plugs with 3 square pins. There is a lively bar facing a nice swimming pool. While the bar is nice place to chill and meet people, the music from the bar may bother those who have rooms close to the bar. (The bar music ends late on Saturday nights) Overall, because of the affordable rates and good location, this place is good value for money as long as you don't mind some bar music in the evening.
Kkitsune.tIt's close to Victoria Falls, but it's a bit difficult to walk in the hot weather. The room was small, but it looked like it had just been renovated and was clean. Hair dryers can be rented at the front desk, and there is a shop inside the hotel from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., which is convenient.
Breakfast was delicious at a stylish cafe called Brooks nearby.
