As with any review I write, I always want to be balanced and fair, so... The Good Room was absolute luxury, can't fault a single thing - absolutely bloody Amazing, nothing more to add! The Spa facilities, again fantastic, although I found anything that required heating to be a little cold but I guess that's a personal choice. In brief you will not be disappointed, they even had a bar serving smoothies, coffees and even Prosecco and beer; huge plus for a relaxing day. The Bad Rockcliffe clearly pride themselves on being a self contained resort catering to both ladies, gents, couples and mixed groups and to their credit they have all the facilities to do this. On our one night stay the plan was that the ladies would have a spa treatment and the men would play golf, all good you would think. However the golf course was in effect closed for the day (to be clear there were tee times available after 2.30pm however at the time of year we went we would not have completed our round) and we had to drive to another course some distance away. I think its madness that Rockliffe don't reserve a couple of tee times for guests, its just poor for the experience they are trying to provide hotel guests! Secondly, we arrived at 1pm, we did not expect to have access to our rooms but the ladies who had Spa treatments booked for later in the afternoon planned to kill an hour or so in the Spa itself, but no, Rockcliffe wanted to charge them a further £60 for an hour's access to the pool area even though they had paid for spa treatments and were staying overnight. NOT 5* SERVICE & a COMPLETE MONEY GRAB! And to make things worse, we could not even get lunch in the restaurant as an alternative. Now the above you would think was bad enough but to top things off the next morning breakfast took over 2 hours from sitting down to finishing. I had plans to go back in the Spa etc, what a waste of all our time. The Insult We obviously complained about our experience and as you would expect Rockliffe management took onboard our feedback, accepted we had been poorly treated and said we would be compensated. However this is where the positivity ends, all we were offered was a minimal discounted return stay, not even a free round of golf, treatment etc. So in effect no compensation at all, a complete disregard for our poor treatment. I won't be taking them up on their offer.
