Fantastic location but my room was a bit in need of a refurb Selection of beer in the bar was awful. But all in all a great weekend. The Scape House Inn is only a 10 minute walk and the beer there is brilliant

The hotel has a very good location, it has very nice views around the city. It gave me a wonderful feel for that place around and I enjoy it as well. If the facilities inside the the room can be further improved, it would be much better.

My friend and I booked this hotel, with the plan to go out for a lovely walk, then have a nice meal in the evening. Unbeknown to us, there was a wedding on and, we were told on check in that it may be busy, and advised to eat earlier. We went out for a walk in the area (which is beautiful) to arrive back to notices saying the bar was closing at 7 pm. We asked where we were supposed to go, and were told either in our room, he could put a table in an upstairs bar, or we could 'hide' in the corner with the wedding party! We made sure we were down in the bar area earlier and were served wine that tasted like it had been open for months. We felt we had to rush our meal (which wasn't that great) before the wedding party started to filter in. It got really busy, we couldn't get to the public bar at all and felt really uncomfortable so did end up going back to our room early. I appreciate there was a wedding on, but I think hotel guests should not be made to feel that they are an inconvenience. There were at least three other couples staying that were not part of the wedding party, one of whom waited over half an hour to be checked in, and then swiftly checked out again, one gentleman was complaining of his door being knocked on constantly, and the couple we sat near in the bar area were ordering a 3 course meal that was part of a package, but told they may not have enough time to eat all three courses. I have wanted to try this hotel for a while now, as its in such a beautiful location but sadly it was a major disappointment!

Had to go back to the reception as there was no milk or tea in my room. The young man on the reception just rambled on and on about his up coming cruise holiday and when he gets back, about how things are going to have to change at this hotel or else. Then he drowned on about how he is going to be part of the management team and the hotel group need to buck up. I only wanted milk and tea. Personally I think the chap needs more training to value the customers time before his own career and aspersions. Let’s hope his cruise softens his gripe against the hotel management. Then I can reduce 10 minutes to 10 seconds getting milk and tea for the room

Food has gone backwards I used to book here because the food was outstanding!!! but the last two times not so good . Chunky chips were to die for when homemade, not so good out of the freezer, shop bought , just short of £20 for steak but no Muchroom’s and the same shop bought frozen chips . The other meal was A rather crusty beef pie but it was the beef that was dry and crusty on the outside edges not the topping . All in all such a shame, you were top of your game on the food for so many consecutive visits but it’s clear that things have changed . If it’s costs I would have been pleased to pay more to get the quality you impressed me with at the very beginning . I’m just not sure I will book here next time as for me it was the amazing food that carried the dated rooms but enjoyed having both food and room at the same location .

The roof leaked and the views were completely disrupted by scaffolding surrounding the building. No heat and buckets decorated the reception. Room was dark with obvious damp penetration in the walls. We had a miserable time. The problems were obvious for some time but nobody contacted us. Money over service.

Nice room. Mostly friendly staff. Food good at times. Breakfast good. Vegetarian choice poor at dinner. Not consistent offering or consistent customer service. Would not recommend as not consistent service or food choice. Will be back though as know it well. It is very good value and in a nice setting. Television on constantly in bar which is a bit odd. Hit and miss. Mostly good.

This hotel has been around for a LONG time, so I do feel it needs 'updating,' however, my room was basic, clean and reasonably comfortable. The girl on reception was not overly chatty, but she checked me in just fine. I did not have food, so cannot comment on that. My room was spotless and, like I said, basic - my only criticism is that it could've done with an ironing board, air conditioning in the bathroom but otherwise brilliant. Yes I would return for an overnight stay :)
