The individual waitress was friendly, attentive and generally great. Unfortunately, she was also extremely apologetic which I expect she has become well practiced at. She seemed a little embarrassed about the failings around her. The chicken and stilton pie was, frankly, revolting. It was served with stone cold French Fries (they apologised that they had run out of chips 2 days ago) and, instead of the seasonal fresh green vegetables that were offered and accepted, it came with excessively microwaved frozen peas. The "fresh" fish and chips came with the same cold French Fries (mashed potato had been offered as an alternative to chips). The fish was cold, with soggy batter, with very little fish inside the batter, and what was there was a greyish white colour. The haloumi kebab was pulled at the last moment and the disappointing chicken & chorizo tagliatelle that was hurriedly chosen instead, contained 5 very small pieces of chicken. The chorizo couldn't be found. I'm not a fussy eater and I can't remember leaving a meal before, but I left my pie. The fish & chips was also left and 80% of the tagliatelle was too. The waitress apologised profusely and obviously knew how bad it all was yet the manager seemed shocked that we had the audacity to complain. Let's be clear, this isn't about being fussy, it's about awful food and the appalling attitude of the manager. We agreed that the food wouldn't be charged for at all, and that we would only be billed for 50% of the drinks - the drinks were charged for in full regardless. I couldn't be bothered any more so paid and left, making sure the only person who deserved it received a tip. The place has recently changed hands and unfortunately, particularly because my mum lives locally, we'll not be returning until it has changed hands again - this lot couldn't successfully run a bath.

On a course so this was recommended. It was nice enough, a fair bit of parking (though some people really can't park their cars properly) and the whole place had a good look. Checked in at the bar and was shown where the room was. Nice and compact. Window was just to the wall but the hotel was storing some stuff outside the room and so had people walking past during my stay. The bed was nice as was the shower. Had a restaurant and they seemed to be having some issues. I was a bit annoyed that nothing had been said when I asked what time it was closed, as I had gone out just after arrival and could have eaten out but thinking I was doing a good thing thought I would eat in. So with what they didn't have I ended up with fish and chips, which was OK. Chips nice but the fish was catch of the day and not cod, whatever it was - i didn't ask as there was little choice if I didn't have - was not the greatest taste. So as a place to stay in I would do again, but I would not eat in, though the breakfast was good ( though they were missing bits for that as well)

Absolutely terrible! I cannot believe anyone could write anything positive about this place. It is true that the main entrance to the pub is quaint and pretty but beyond that, I would give this place a wide berth. The barman although very pleasant, did not have a clue what he was doing. It seemed that there were only two individuals serving in a busy restaurant and they were clearly stressed. We were told by the barman that we did not need to reserve a table in the restaurant, we were staying overnight at the venue. We were met at the restaurant entrance by the waitress who asked if we’d reserved. When we explained we’d tried to but had been told it wasn’t necessary, she was clearly put out and proceeded to complain about people who just turned up at restaurants without reserving. We explained we were actually guests staying at the pub that night. Prior to ordering we were told there was no red meat or chicken available as their delivery hadn’t arrived. That really didn’t bother me as I prefer not to eat meat. My husband also decided that he would be happy to go for a meat alternative option and chose the seafood tagliatelle. I chose the halloumi skewer meal which on paper, sounded lovely. Things gradually got worse from there on. The halloumi dish was priced at £19 and was a main course dish. It consisted of three tiny skewers of halloumi, (more like finger food). A small bowl of hummus, half a slice of pitta bread and a tiny corn on the cob that had been cooked with meat. As the plate was supposed to be vegetarian it tasted quite disgusting and was inedible. The rest of the food for what it was worth was edible but certainly not worth £19 and I was left feeling still very hungry. I spoke to the waitress regarding this but although she apologised she did not offer a solution. My husband’s meal was so bland I can only describe it as slop, dripping in cream and slacking in seasoning. Breakfast was no better, I asked for scrambled eggs with avocado on toast. When I asked to have it on brown bread the waitress said they only had white. I did not get avocado either as she explained the ones that had been delivered were hard. My husband ordered a bacon and egg breakfast roll and got a bacon roll instead. We had given up by this stage so finished breakfast, packed and left deciding never again to return. Do not go there! A very poor but costly experience.

Came and stayed here with myself and my partner, the rooms was spacious and welcoming in a great location, the staff made sure everything was perfect. Me and my partner then decided to try the food in the restaurant and can happily say I was amazed, great presentation and amazing to look at. The chef Franko was extremely professional and went above and beyond for me and my partners dishes. We both had a fillet steak which was rare - medium and was cooking beautifully… honestly truly was perfection, we then followed this up with a gooey amazing chocolate fudge cake again was extremely tasty, On request I asked to speak to the chef to which I found out his name and I thanked him for such an amazing service. He deffo got tipped and I would come back again. I travelled from the Isle of Wight as well I would go back everyday if I could. Again thank you Franko for such amazing tasty food :) I can’t understand some of the ratings as our dishes were truly a work of art. Jay

We have eaten here a few times before and in the past have had a super experience. However last night we went and had a dreadful meal. The pork belly starter was actually excellent but the other 2 starters were average at best. However the 2 steak main courses were small and cold, and the chicken was so dry it was unpleasant to eat (chicken schnitzel caesar salad). The price of the meal was that of a high end pub restaurant - £150.00 for 3 people (2 courses, drinks paid separately at the bar). I don't mind paying this kind of money if the food is good, but this wasn't. However the service was really good and the waitress was friendly and attentive. It's a shame - it used to be a really busy pub restaurant with a great atmosphere and good food - but last night (a Friday evening) it was virtually empty and very disappointing. We assumed that the previous chef has left??

As a family we have been going to this pub for 5yrs and in the last 3 years the food has been ok, Went last night for dinner 4 main courses one was burnt and 2 others the chicken was so dry. The 4th soup so was ok. Deserts apple crumble and the crumble was not cooked at all so not edible. Prices are in the range of a good restaurant but the food is not.

Not great, wouldn't stay again. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, church bells rang all evening into the night which was not advertised. The room had a really strong smell of washing detergent which was off putting and somehow made the room feel unclean.

Lovely but noisy
The room was great, but the church bell rang every 25 minutes all through the night. I barely slept. It was every annoying.
