Sunday lunch was disappointing, beef not cooked enough for friend asked to be cooked more, veg not hot when it came back. Some pieces of cutlery not clean. My Yorkshire was warm not hot, no horseradish, beef 50% fat. Tried to be discrete in complaining, told that l had to pay full price £22 as that was the price, asked to speak to chef or manager, no one came eventually offered £5 off my meal, by this time I just wanted to get out of there. My complaint was fully justified, customer service by chef and manager was non existent. This is the first time l have ever given a bad review.

Sunday 10 – Monday 11 August 2025 This hotel looked so good but was so disappointing! We (my partner and I) booked on the day before for a Sunday night stay. Checking the hotel’s website we knew we could have dinner there, and after a busy weekend we just wanted to chill with a nice meal (the menu looked unexciting but reasonably priced), enjoy a couple of drinks at the bar and have an early night followed by a leisurely breakfast the next morning. However, on arrival at 6pm we were told, in a very offhand manner by the receptionist that the kitchen closed at 4pm, there was no evening meal that night. She did not apologise or offer any suggestion as to where we might eat instead. There was a sign on the door confirming this, but the website was still showing incorrect information. The receptionist (doubling as barmaid), checked us in sullenly then led us silently to our room - we felt like we were just being an inconvenience to her. No information was volunteered about WiFi, times for breakfast or bar hours. We discovered the next morning that the little ‘Welcome’ card on the coffee tray had a QR code on the reverse which we could have scanned to find this information. Sadly this was not mentioned by the receptionist either. I have never checked into a hotel with so few words! We settled in to the room, which was nicely decorated, with a huge bathroom (very few surfaces to put toiletries though). The shower was good, big towels, the bed was reasonably comfortable, and I can’t fault the cleanliness. There was no chair which was annoying, and no hairdryer. I did request one at the bar later and it was brought to us there (not taken to our room!). We asked what time the bar shut and were told (and I quote) ‘10pm….or, well I might shut at 9pm if there are no customers!’. Fortunately there were some friendly local customers in the bar who kindly directed us to the nearby village and suggested places we might eat (mostly Indian or Chinese!). So now we had to drive to the village, find somewhere to eat (though no drinks for me as designated driver!), and drive back after. We did find a lovely pub with an excellent barmaid and were made to feel very welcome, and we ended up enjoying a delicious Thai meal, so the evening wasn’t wasted, though it certainly wasn’t the one we had planned. Returning to the hotel at 9.30pm the bar was indeed closed, so no nightcap for me! Breakfast the next morning, with the only other four guests in the hotel, was served by a lovely lad who could have taught the receptionist a thing or two about hospitality! He was friendly, attentive and personable, though no sugar was supplied with our coffees – luckily we don’t take sugar anyway! There was cereal, yoghurt, toast, jam and marmalade available, all help yourself, but the bread, marmalade, juice and milk were all uncovered and the area was full of flies, especially enjoying the bread and marmalade - I’m sure this is a hygiene issue. So we gave that a miss and had the full Engl

Lovely setting and has obviously been renovated since some previous reviews. Really tastefully done. When we arrived we were met in a way that made us feel like an inconvenience. Told food service was finished at 8 .. it was 8.10 with no alternative suggestion etc. Shown to room was all OK. Breakfast next morning went in at 8am as advised but already a few tables in. We waited for 40 mins before being offered hot drinks or cooked food.. which was the same every morning despite trying to order the minute we came in they were very reluctant to take an order. Only 1 girl on service friday who was run off her feet poor thing super apologetic . Sat/sun we had to be out by 9 so gave up so wasted money really. Evening meal Friday allowed to order reluctantly but told would be a wait which was really fine as lovely evening outside with huge group for a wedding but again did feel like an inconvenience. We had to move rooms after first night as we booked an additional room separately but weren't allowed to move rooms until 4pm or £30 check in early fee which I feel was a bit much given we had already stayed with them that night and rooms were ready! Such a shame really as was such a lovely wedding weekend but felt pub could be so much more friendly. Everyone in our group who stayed her which was 10 rooms + felt the same

Ancient modernised hostelry Room and bathroom spotlessly clean. Low beams and door to bathroom so 6 ft husband kept banging his head. Limited breakfast choice but cooked options were good. Large party while we were staying so service slow. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Great hotel but NO running water Hotel was lovely with all the low beams you could want, However at least three rooms had no hot water and only a trickle of cold water. There were 7 guests staying that night and three of the rooms (5 guests) shared the lack of water. Staff were asked and they sympathised but did nothing. I emailed the hotel but over the last week no response. Very disappointing Bar staff were friendly, food was great

A lunch for four on a Friday. Let me jump ahead to say that the food was excellent, a diverse menu, well presented on the plate, great flavours, robust ingredients. A wood fire on entering the bar was a welcome prelude, however, prior to that my entrance into the building had been met by a disconcerting scowl by the sole member of staff on duty that lunchtime. Her wayward indifference had escalated to a lukewarm sort of pleasantry by the time the food was served, and was maintained at this level of inhospitality until our departure. Enjoy the food, but try and not pick a day when this contrary woman is in attendance.

Nice comfy rooms and friendly staff Really nice pub, convenient for Ludlow and the Shropshire Hills. Winter weekend break for us, nice big clean quiet room, comfy bed, plenty of space and large bathroom. All the staff very friendly and efficient, had a nice meal there - steak well cooked - and the breakfast was tasty, good quality ingredients and served quickly and with a smile. The bar area was nice, log fire burning and lots of locals in there. One negative was the water temp in the shower - I imagine as it’s an old building it’s not set up for the demand put on it at busy times. The shower fluctuated between cold and actual scalding hot where I almost had to jump out of the bath to avoid scalding so just be aware It only happened on the second morning when we were most likely showering at the same time as everyone else in the place. Overall we had a nice relaxing experience here and would come back if in the area.

The Hopton Crown Staff excellent, venue excellent, ample parking, room excellent (mind ya head 😃), breakfast very good. Only problem was the central heating radiators were terrible. Coldest couple of days of the year so far so it was needed. Room and landing radiators ony red hot on the bottom couple of inches, maybe an air lock? An electric heater was provided, it didnt work either. Staff supplied another electric heater which saw us through. Apart from that, would definitely recommended and would go back.
