Econo Lodge Near Fort Gregg-Adams I-295

This is the experience of our stay at the Hopewell, VA Econolodge. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by an empty desk. We called "hello" repeatedly and even phoned the hotel thinking someone might come to answer the ringing phone. After about 10 minutes, the clerk came out and muttered a flustered "sorry" and asked our name. There was stacked up carpet in the hall. The room itself had two big blood stains on the wall outside the bathroom. The towel rack in the bathroom was missing and the hardware had very sharp edges. The climate control unit was broken and in about 6 pieces. The coffeemaker had no pot, but from the smell in the elevator and the stairs and hall there was other pot around. It was evening when we checked in and pretty sure there was a lady of the evening there as well. We returned the pieces of the towel rack to the clerk and he offered us a different room. Since the sheets were clean and bedbug free, we declined. This was a brief pit stop on a Tuesday night that offered newspapers to guests. However it was a Sunday edition. We didn't consider dining at the complimentary breakfast. The area itself was seedy, with an abandoned mini mall behind it. Unless you want to feel like a participant on Survivor, stay away.

Not clean, dirty wash clothes and filthy stained towels. Bathtubs never clean, moldy shower curtains. Bed sheets stained. Blankets have burnt cigarettes holes. Rooms look like previous visitor was still there with hair throughout room.

Needs improvement Toilet ran.. floor made weird noise when you walked on it. Had a weird smell

Weekend trip We were concerned when we walked into the lobby and saw the glass wall separating the lobby from the clerk. We wondered about our security if there was a need to put the clerk behind safety glass. The room was comfortable. The parking lot was nice and clean.

Upgrade would make a stay better here. Nice location. First I was put in a smoking room. I was changed to a non smoking room which was much better. Please make the entire sleeping rooms NON smoking. The smell throughout the property takes on the bad odor of smoking smoke. Update all bathroom please.

WON’T STAY THERE AGAIN You get what you pay for but this place is a disgrace. Worse we’ve ever stayed in. The bed linens fortunately were clean but some of the towels were dirty, one in particular looked like someone had wiped their shoes on it and hung it back on the bar. No cable so tv reception was “snowy”. I’ve seen better furniture at flea markets. Sat on the sofabed and practically sunk to the floor. Had a room on first floor near the back exit where we discovered that there was no latch on that door so impossible to lock! Not too secure. All and all the hotel needs a complete overhaul. Only good thing about this place is the woman at reception who was pleasant.
