We have stayed at many Marriott hotels over the years. On a recent visit to Birmingham visit grandkids and kids, we made reservations for 2 nights at the Reside ce Inn in Hoover. Having stayed at an excellent Residence Inn in Decatur the night before, our expectations were of a clean, functional, quiet night in a reasonably priced suite. We were shocked to find the hotel undergoing renovations so there was construction material all over the place. The back door was propped up with a lock - I assume for the convenience of the construction crews - but at the cost of our overnight safety. When we stepped over the construction materials and found our room, our quiet evening was ompleteky disrupted by a very loud, screaming, yelling row of rooms - over full - of partying people. There were many more people le in attendance than would stay in any individual room and it was obvious that a party was underway. We called the front desk and we're told they would take care of it. We left to eat dinner and, upon our return, found the party still in full swing. I again called the front desk and was told they would make a phone call. 11:00 and no relief. Midnight came and went and the screaming and yelling only intesifird. Another phone call to the front desk with more empty promises of a call. At 1:00 am I finally went across the hall, banged on the door, and asked the group of people in the room to hold it down. The beligerence I received made any hope for sleep impossible. We buckled down with pillows over our heads but got virtually no sleep that night. When we mentioned the situation - TWICE - the next morning, and insisted on moving to a different hotel, we were met with complete disinterest. DO NOT STAY AT THE RESIDENCE INN IN HOOVER. You will leave the hotel exhausted, frustrated, and feeling bitter toward the Marriott brand.
