Courtyard Birmingham Hoover

This is a difficult review since the hotel is under renovation. The people working at the hotel were all very friendly and did their best to help us out. We had issues as described below. I must give the hotel a 2-star rating right now but would give the staff a 5 out of 5. Once the renovation construction is finished, it might be a 3 ½ to 4-star property. We stayed 3 nights the first weekend in May. I read the reviews regarding the renovation/construction issue but we were part of a wedding party so I kept the reservation. Most of the construction in the rooms and common areas is done. The pool was not open and neither was the workout room. Our room had a new carpet and sink. The tub was still old. The beds were nice and comfortable. The linens and pillows were very nice. We had water issues as the main hot water heater failed for about 5 hours Friday. We were lucky it was repaired within 5 hours so we could take showers before the rehearsal dinner! Our sink stopped up twice and after rodding it leaked a little. We just put a towel down to sop up the water. The ice machine on the first floor worked. The others did not and there was major leakage in the 2nd floor ice machine area. The hotel needs a sign on the main road at the entrance to the front desk area. There is a sign for the hotel on the main road but it is in the middle of the property rather than at the entrance to the parking and drive-up area. Also, there are no signs directing one to the hotel rooms in the various wings of the hotel. You just have to guess to locate your room. Maybe they will put room directions on the floors later. An odd thing about the hotel is that the elevator is in the back of the hotel far from the front desk. The corridor is very long. It is almost like a Vegas hotel! It was quite a walk taking our luggage to the elevator on the carpeted floors. Later in our stay we parked in the rear of the hotel nearer the elevators. I’d give this hotel another try when the renovation/construction is finished. Once again, the people working there were all friendly and helpful!

Was not given the room that i initially booked thru ******* and courtyard was unwilling to help!

When we checked in we asked for a quiet room since we were making a long trip and needed to rest. Unfortunately the clerk on duty put us next to some young girls that were there to party. They had loud music and people coming and going into the night. I complained to the clerk and who said she would take care of it. After another hour of nothing changing I finally went back to the desk and demanded another room. Fortunately another clerk (Sophie) was on duty and she immediately moved us to another room far from the party and sent someone to handle the group that was causing the disturbance.

Terrible condition. Dirty, food cigarette butts, litter inside and out. Pool was filthy and very poor condition. Staff was good but nothing they could do about condition. Phone did not work and on and on. Do not stay there. Shame on Mariott.

Super nice staff. The room was very clean.

The bathroom exhaust did not work. The room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Air conditioning could not keep the room cool/cold and the air did now blow fast.

I liked it

I loved the spacious 1 bedroom with the balcony.

Whether was amazing the hotel and staff was amazing upon arrival and at departure I couldn’t get Hispanic employees to understand I needed towels and toiletries.
