We had the best time at Hamakua hotel. First, the manager was very accomodating and generous. The room was beautiful, big, clean, with big windows - so relaxing. And we had the chance to attend the surprise dinner on tuesday night. It was unbelievable. Truly, one of the best dinners in my life. We were amazed and so grateful. The Hamakua hotel is a pricey place to stay, but for the experience that we had, it was all worth it. Beyond expectations. We truly recommend it!

The property was a small beautiful waterfront hotel. The staff and owner was amazing, and always there to get you what you need. The property is very clean and in a great location!

We wanted to split up our Big Island stay between the Hilo side and the Kona side. Could not find a better place for Hilo side. Hotel is new, clean and comfortable. Staff is EXCELLENT. Property is small and we got to know staff, owners and guests on a personal basis. Very “homey” feel. Hated to leave but off to Kona!

Gorgeous surroundings and view, gorgeous room, gorgeous seven course dinner that was included. Watched whales spouting from our private balcony and also from the infinity pool. Valerie was an amazing host. We loved everything and we want to come back.

Almost a 10/10
Difficultly with transportation without a car
Dinner at hotel when available was wonderful but otherwise need to be resourceful and comfortable to go with the flow (again without transpiration) as you cannot walk to anything, but also what makes it such a great place. Relaxed within minutes!!

This little hotel is an absolute gem! Tucked away along the coast, once you enter the gated premises, you feel like you are home (away from home). The manager met us upon arrival, showed us to our room and gave a brief orientation. Not too much, not too little. The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable; with all the luxuries of home. The sheets, pillows, towels, robes, coffee maker, etc made it a perfect visit for our 5 night stay. Make sure you take part in the dinners. Abby is amazing, creative and accommodating (we avoid sugar and gluten).
