Aloft Birmingham Soho Square

The location is good & the employees were great! However, the hotel Is outdated & dirty! Some of the rooms smelled of cigarettes, took a while for water to get hot, an electrical outlet was hanging out of the wall, phone didn’t work in one of the rooms when trying to call the front desk, elevators are extremely slow! There was a patch on one of the walls that looked like someone had punched a hole in the wall. I got trapped in the bathroom because the door is like a pocket door and slides to the side, when opening it, it hit the hair dryer & bathroom counter & would only open a few inches! Thank goodness my husband was in the room to let me out! I glad we were only there for one night. That was more than enough! I am one & done and wouldn’t stay again!

This was the designated hotel for a family event. Our flight was delayed, and I tried calling the hotel to inform them that we wouldn't be arriving until the next day, but no one answered the phone. When we arrived around 11:30am the next day we were told a room wouldn't be ready until after 1pm. We dropped off the luggage and killed time until about 3. A new person was on duty and said our reservation had been cancelled because we hadn't arrived on the scheduled day! Three employees appeared clueless at what to do, and finally Charlie the manager arrived. He immediately rebooked us and gave us a preferential rate for all the hassle. The room itself had issues. I couldn't figure out the hotel phone buttons, nothing said housekeeping, so I went back to the lobby to request a blanket. The toilet seat wasn't just loose, but a screw was entirely missing! The seat was loose in another room too (with a couple we were traveling with). The seats were fixed while we went to the family event. But wait, there's more... In our room, the shower head was extremely noisy, to the point where hubby wore earplugs! I'm even more noise sensitive, so went without the shower and used washcloths like the astronauts do. When I checked the shower in the other couple's room, it was normal - but that room was missing a hotel phone completely!? The rooms lack towel bars to hang them to dry. And they have soft mattresses - too soft for hubby's preference.

Great hotel in a fun area! My friend and I were there over a weekend for a girls’ trip. We decided to stay in Homewood because we wanted the ease of walking to restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques. This hotel fit the bill for that. Super friendly staff, from check-in to housekeeping services. I can’t remember when I’ve come across such a welcoming staff at a hotel. Our room on the 3rd floor was comfortable and quiet. The hotel provides complimentary coffee each morning, which is something I always love in a hotel. The lobby has all kinds of great seating options for gathering, a small bar with TVs, and a pool table/game area. I would absolutely stay here again, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Not too bad. Picked this hotel pretty much at random. It was part of the Marriott chain, which is always good for point accumulation. And it was not expensive. We were pleased. Rooms were well appointed. Bed was comfy. Décor was tasteful and modern. Everything worked. Wifi was excellent. They had a nice “grab and go” hot breakfast that really hit the spot. Angle-in street parking was plentiful and free. Nothing fancy, but an easy place to hang out. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Loved the lobby of the hotel. Its very nice and they have a bar. There was a gentleman in the lobby cooking omelets for everyone, which was nice. They offer valet or parking in the garage. I don't know if I am spelling this right but a valet name Malaki was very nice and welcomed us. Front desk was very nice and accommodating as well. There are some great places to eat all in walking distance. I would recommend this place.

Stayed here this past weekend. The hotel lobby is very nice and they have bar! We played some pool in the lobby and played cornhole. They had sports playing on the TV. They offer valet here. I did not valet but the valet guy Deshaun helped us with our bags. He was great. Overall we had a nice stay here and will recommend

This hotel is sketchy and in horrible shape. Half of the hotel is under construction. Walls are all banged up. Carpet is filthy. Decor is dated. Hotel staff answers questions with “I don’t know I have only been here two weeks” to many questions asked. Can’t wait until morning comes and can leave.

I don't believe I've written a negative hotel review since the end of COVID and lock downs, mostly because I'm happy to be out and about traveling for both work and leisure. But the situation at the Aloft in Homewood, Alabama is bad enough that I think it warrants a review. First, let me start by saying that I like the Aloft brand. I like the modern decor and the "re-think" of what modern travelers want and how the hotel should be laid out to facilitate that. But modern decor, while looking sharp (at first) doesn't age well. And this was certainly the case at the Aloft in Homewood. Most of the room furnishing were beginning to show there age. Additionally, whatever repairs that had been attempted were poor in quality and quite visible to the eye. The hallways had numerous scuffs and missing trim and chunks of dryway missing. Even the concrete steps and floor inside the building were stained and poorly maintained and cleaned (see pictures for all of the above). On check-in, I stood at the counter for a solid 5-7 minutes before someone appeared from the back office area. I am also a Marriott (Lifetime) Titanium member. I was not greeted as a Bonvoy member, much less as a Titanium member. Nor was I offered the Titanium Elite arrival gift. I mentioned this and was told (we'll credit you the points). Ad of this writing, those points have not been credited. When I arrived in my room, it was a two queen bed room. One bed looked fine. The other bed had clearly been remade or laid upon and was quite wrinkled. Not a particularly inviting situation. But no worries, I just slept on the bed that looked good. This was only a 1-night stay. I left at 8:00 am in the morning to have breakfast across the street at the Farm Bowl with a colleague. Before I left, I left the do not disturb sign on my door. Upon returning around 10 am I was surprised to find the housekeeping person in my room stripping the bed. I asked her to leave while I used the restroom and finished packing. Then, upon check-out, I waited again at the desk for 3-5 minutes. I inquired as to the points, and the person checking me out (who was different than the person checking me in) looked at me with a puzzled look. Overall, the location is good for my particular re-occurring travel. But after this stay, I will look for a new location - maybe the nearby Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites? Aloft Homewood Management: your location needs some attention paid to both maintenance and to the service provided at the front desk and housekeeping.

I’ve been writing reviews for years and if I had read these prior ones I probably would not have stayed at Aloft Soho but I had a free night expiring and took a chance. I must say I’ve been pleasantly surprised. From Brandon at the front desk who was very professional and friendly to beat to my updated room with great shower and fine bedding. This has been a very good experience. The location within walking distance to many restaurants and bakeries will be recommended to others.
