Courtyard Birmingham Homewood

I don’t think the hotel was anything special, they didn’t have water in the room which should be expected for the price I’m paying. However Miss Lafaye was amazing. I used to be a night manager 15 years ago for a Hilton Property. She immediately saw how tired I was from my flight and got me checked in and my card with lightning speed. I can tell she’s very well trained and professional, and that made the highlight of my stay.

We stayed at this hotel the night before a procedure at the hospital. Our room was upgrades to a suite. It was a wonderful room on the bottom floor with a sliding door (which had a safety bar). The doors opened to a beautiful courtyard with flowers and a fire pit. The bathrooms was small, probably due to being an older hotel. Next time we are in the area I will definitely stay at this hotel.

My husband and I struggle to find a hotel with consistently good service in or near downtown Birmingham. I regularly take early morning flights to see my mother and we live an hour away. I don't drive well in the dark so we stay near the airport for a quick early morning ride. This hotel nearly met and even exceeded out standards on many fronts. We love having the balcony to get fresh air. Far too many people -- even ones who smoke outdoors -- leave the smell of cigarettes in hotel rooms and it's not helpful to anyone who is allergic to smoke like I am. This was a very clean room with fresh air and I loved the upgrade to a suite. The downsides? Well, the woman working at the eating area needed help. My food was room temperature by the time I got it. I didn't complain because she was clearly overwhelmed. Also, the refrigerator in my room was so high, the yogurt I got to eat the next morning was rock hard! Thankfully, the front desk person let me switch it out. But all in all, this is an excellent hotel. I even loved the sounds of the children playing in the pool. You will feel safe here and there are lots of dining options nearby should you not want to pay for the food which is a bit wee, or high, like most hotel food. Still the service was great. My hats off to the workers in this hotel for dealing well with what most businesses are dealing with: small, overworked staffs.

Was in Homewood for the first time for business, and stayed at this Courtyard which was in a convenient location right by the hospital, shopping center across the street and corporate parks. It's in a nice area overall with hills and trees all around. The layout is different than your typical hotel or Courtyard in that it has a courtyard in the middle where the pool is outdoors. It's nice for a relaxing time on the balcony or outside the patio door in you are on the ground level. The room is quite minimalist / plain. Not that big either. On the plus side - there was a standing shower. The room did provide a good night sleep. They had plenty of firm pillows unlike so many hotels where your head goes straight thru the pillow onto the mattress. And the HVAC controls allowed for a steady temperature throughout the day/night. I could hear some neighboring noise through the connecting noise even though the guest in the next room wasn't being that allowed. There was also no bottles of water in the room which seems to be the Courtyard way nowadays. The gym was small - a little disappointed in it. No exercise bike and just a few machines or stations. I do expect to be in the area 1-2X a year and I'd be satisfied in staying at this Courtyard again.

This is the newest hotel in Birmingham and it shows. Rooms are kept very clean. Premises are in a wooded shady area of Birmingham and there is a Target store right across the road. Rooms have refrigerators. Only downside we saw is that the iron in our room leaked and the iron in another room had gunk all over it -- so ironing was a challenge!

Terrible experience for loyal Marriott Platinum. Won’t return. The front desk failed twice upon our arrival and never expressed any appreciation for our loyalty or platinum level. The food server was great and the rooms clean. Beds are not great. They need to improve their first impression and overall services

Checked in at midnight, lady at desk was helpful, went to check in and hallway carpets were wore down like a cattle pass. There were dirty linen bins in hallway full of dirty towels and bed sheets. After getting in I went to look for an ice machine and after the 4th one buy main entrance found one that worked. Ready for bed pulled top cover off which was not in great shape and found 2 long black hairs on bed. After 3 hours of sleep checked out at 4:30 am and as I was leaving saw an airline pilot having a muffin and coffee next to bistro. I see a push down coffee dispenser and proceeded to grab a cup when this older man that drives the shuttle bus tells me that the coffee is for the pilots only and that the bistro opens at 6:30 if I want to purchase a coffee. As he can see I have my bag with me and I’m leaving. This place is old and run down, it is not up to a courtyard standard.

Always check the sheets! Mine were soiled with drops of blood. The hotel is not very clean. The room appeared clean at first glance but when I pulled back the covers the putter cover duvet had blood stains. My room was changed but the second room was not better. Stay at the risk of dirty sheets, musky carpet and curtains, dirty vents, and stained bathroom walls.

Because of some TripAdvisor reviews I didn’t have great expectations but stayed here anyway because it was where some colleagues were staying so it would be easiest to coordinate. The reports about the layout of the property being awkward were accurate and I am grateful to the reviewers who advised parking in the back because that is where the only elevator is located. My room was dated- popcorn ceilings (and walls!) but I would have rated this property as fine because the breakfast bowl with quinoa and breakfast service were good and that would have balanced out the negatives. However, there were two other negatives the tipped the balance. First, during my stay I bought two small bottles of water at the market and when I checked out I discovered that I was charged $4.50 for one bottle and $5.00 for the second one (plus required tax). I asked about the discrepancy and was told that the price was posted it but it wasn’t and the desk clerk conceded it wasn’t but then just shrugged. Aside from being overpriced, charging different prices a day apart was arbitrary. Also, while housekeepers were working in other rooms in the hall outside my room I told them I would be leaving for the rest of the day so that they could get into my room and asked for more towels but they didn’t clean or give me towels. No one told me that there isn’t daily housekeeping (if that is the case) but even at properties without daily housekeeping one can usually get towels or trash removed on request. Apparently not here. I don’t have any plans to return to the area but I wouldn’t return to this property if I were.
