The facilities are OK, in line with the price of its room. 4. The service boss and the proprietress are very enthusiastic and have a good attitude. 5. There are many restaurants and shops in the surrounding village villa area, and the night market is also very lively; nearby is the university town, there are many universities such as the University of Engineering, Taiyuan Engineering (Mingxiang Campus), Medical University, University of Chinese Medicine and other universities.

GGuest UserWe stayed at thos lovely hotel. Lovingly restored by the current owner Mr Wang. He is the 6th generation owner of the property.
Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it
And it does feel and look like a traditional house.
You feel you are going back in time.
Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs.
He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city.
Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions.
Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him.
Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm.
On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour.
Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class.
The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved
The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk.
The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

GGuest UserI stayed 3 nights in this hostel. I liked it really much. I felt at home there. The owner are really kind, they speak English very well and, they are keen to chitchat with you after your day which is really nice when you are traveling alone. Also the hostel is really clean. On top of that, the hostel is nice with lot of plants. The location is great it's only 2 min walk to reach the old town. To conclude, i highly recommend this hostel in Pingyao and I would come back without any questions.
Je suis resté 3 nuits dans cette auberge. Je l'ai trouvé vraiment très bien. Je m'y suis senti ”comme à la maison”. Les propriétaires sont très gentils, ils parlent très bien anglais et ils aiment discuter avec vous à la fin de votre journée, ce qui est très agréable lorsqu'on voyage seul. Également, l'auberge est très propre. De plus, l'auberge est bien décorée avec se nombreuses plantes. Enfin, l'auberge est très bien située, elle est à seulement 2 min à pied de la vieille ville. Pour conclure, je recommande chaudement cette auberge et j'y retournerai sans hésitation.

IIGreat location, quiet neighborhood but not far from the center. The room is clean , comfortable and has the atmosphere of an old traditional home. It is the service that needs significant improvement to warrant the current four star rating. The price was for two people and yet, there was one tea bag per person, a very small roll of toilet paper and the facial tissue bixes were almost empty. The breakfast was no better: ine boiled egg, a small bun, a bowl of sweet porridge and a tiny slice (about one tenth) of a sweet potato and a root vegetable, with a tiny portion of pickled cabbage. For a mainland B&B well below standard. What’s more, the old nan who was on duty in the morning would pick up dirt from the floor while handling food with bare hands and had trouble finding toilet paper in the storage room while I waited outside in freezing weather. The host is friendly and helped with orientation and organizing transfers to the railway station, so with little improvement in service this could be a good choice for Pingyao.

It is reasonably priced, a bit out of the very center (meaning also out of tourists crowds that can be quite noisy in the evenings and mornings), but still close, has same old-style design as the more popular and well-established places that cater to foreigners, but priced twice as much. Pick-up and drop off service is provided - just contact the hotel in advance via phone using the reception of tour previous hotel - no one speaks English - it will solve your communication issue if you do not speak Chinese. At the place itself everyone is very eager to help - use your phone app to translate. Onwer helped me to buy tickets to Pingyao attractions and Terracota Army as I was heading to Xian next (available only through WeChat Pay that is in turn is not availablefor foreign tourists as of April 2023). If you go to Shuanglin temple, be sure to ask to buy tickets through WeChat for you as well. I was able to buy physical one by pure compassion of local guard who asked the staff to open ticket office just for me (Probably was the only foreigner in Pingyao at a time). Please also note that as of April 2023, the reconstruction works in the historical city parts are continuing, so, large chunks of the city within the walls are not looking as great as it could have been. The very center of the city is mostly untouched though and you can still come and explore. If going in spring, be prepared for the temperature swings. I got a temperature drop from 28C to 3C within 2 days by the moment I got to Pingyao. It was even snowing at night.

GGuest UserThe Red Lantern Hostel in Pingyao offers both a real journey through time and all the modern conveniences. The welcome was very friendly, smiling and kind. I immediately felt at ease here. The room is large, the bed is huge and the heated floor was a real treat compared to my previous hotels where I was much colder! The room is well appointed and even if it shows signs of wear, it is clean, stylish and comfortable. But what I liked most about this hostel is the magnificent inner courtyard and the small rooftop and its lanterns (lit at night, it's just splendid!). Another bonus point: the breakfast (Chinese style, but that's what we're here for, right? ;)) and the little welcome gift, a bottle of local vinegar. In short, I highly recommend this hostel located in the heart of the old town, and what's more it's a good deal!

PPanPivoI must highly recommend this wonderful hotel in the historic centre of Pingyao. The hotel is really authentic, well equipped, the room was beautiful and I didn't miss anything during my stay. The owner is very nice and helpful, he was able to help me with everything. The front desk is guarded by a small, beautiful dog who gives you a proper greeting. Everything is a short walk from the hotel yet it is in a quiet area where you won't be disturbed. Not choosing this hotel for my stay would be a big mistake. Thank you very much

Tento nádherný hotel v historickém centru města Pingyao musím vřele doporučit. Hotel je opravdu autentický, dobře vybavený, pokoj byl krásný a během pobytu mi nic nechybělo. Majitel je velmi milý a ochotný, se vším mi dokázal pomoci. Recepci hlídá malý, krásný pejsek, který vás náležitě přivítá. Vše je kousek od hotelu a přitom je v klidné oblasti, kde vás nebude nikdo rušit. Nevybrat si tento hotel pro svůj pobyt by byla velká chyba. Moc děkuji

We took the high speed train arrived at Pingyaocheng station which is around 15 minutes away from the ancient city. When you enter the city wall gate, you will be amazed of the narrow streets and cobblestone road. Picked Yundingxuan hotel because it was closed to the North gate so
If the taxi was to dropped us off it’ll be a short walk but the driver dropped us off near the hotel because cars are not allowed within the main streets.
The hotel is closed to 200 years old and have characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I was born in Vietnam,
With roots to China but raised up in the US since I was 7 years old. I’ve seen Chinese movies but nothing will prepare you to the hotel and the ancient city. I was surprised how big the hotel complex was. All the staff were very nice, the main host spoke English, and the breakfasts were traditional Chinese breakfast. We stayed two nights and we felt safe throughout our visit. My wife and daughter appreciated the three hotel cats and all the felines throughout the city.
I’m sure the other hotels are fantastic and will give your a unique experience but I can vouch for Yundingxuan. Just be prepared to get out your comfort zone but be amazed by the visual and taste of Pingyao Ancient City.

We were particularly impressed with the hotel staff, who connected us with an excellent English-speaking guide, helped arrange our visits to scenic spots and transfer to the train station, and were generally very helpful throughout our stay.

KKeaiderenzailvxingThe room was very clean. It was a great experience to experience Shanxi's Tukang culture. The air conditioner and shower water were very powerful. The location of the inn is excellent. It is in the city center, quiet in the bustle. It is not far from various attractions and famous restaurants in the ancient city. You will not have to worry about safety issues if you come back late at night. The owner of the inn was very nice. He helped us book tickets for the performance of ”Seeing Pingyao Again” before we arrived. When we arrived, he was very enthusiastic to help us with directions and introduce the features of the ancient city. The little brother from the inn also helped us pick up and drop off our luggage. Every night when we return to the inn, no matter how late it is, we can see the boss waiting for us at the door. The boss said that we should wait until all the guests have returned to the inn before sleeping. He is a very responsible and warm-hearted boss, which is great. The small courtyard of the inn is kept clean and hygienic, and you can leisurely drink a cup of Kung Fu tea, which is very relaxing. Next time I come to Pingyao Ancient City, I will choose to stay here again.
