Boathouse Hotel

Came in late after driving for hours and the kitchen was closed. The man at the bar offered to cook us a meal and it was amazing! They are very hospitable and friendly. Their location is great for walks and is close to most things in town. Would recommend staying there!

Positive-staff were pleasant and chatty. Clearly the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and we were aware of this. Bedding and towels were clean and fresh. Negative-our room was very dated with no headboard on beds The main window was completely fogged and awaiting replacement panes-depressing. Cigarette butt on outside sill-clearly room had been smoked in and the smell remained. The kettle had to be on the low window sill as there were no other sockets. The shower nearly flooded and on checking the drain I was totally horrified at the hair and gunge collected. We did not have time to speak to staff as we had a very early start so have left the drain for them to see. Check if your room has been updated before you book!

We had a long tiring trip to hotel and were looking forward to a pleasant three day break. When checking in at the slightly scruffy reception we were greeted with the surprise we were staying three nights as most guests were one night stopovers for the ferry port. On this basis, I would assume that you’d be given a reasonable room? We had room 20 which was ground floor accessed from the ‘garden’. It was the hottest night of the year bur we had to keep window and curtains closed due to people standing and talking outside of the room. Privacy was impossible. There seems to be a running joke that the hotel is Fawlty Towers, trouble is it wears a bit thin when you are paying £300 for a sub standard room. It’s all about the basics. The room was clean , and basic, but no shelf or hooks in the bathroom, so towels etc had to be placed on sink or floor. It also seemed to be next to staff quarters? Hence the chatting groups from time to time right outside. We sampled the breakfast first morning, not good or cheap. A top quality breakfast was available at the South Stack visitor centre about ten minutes drive away. We ate there rest of stay. Evening meal wasn’t much better. Not awful, but just not worth the money, and the service? It must cost next to nothing to dress staff in usual black trousers and shirt as opposed to looking like a builders labourer. Langdons restaraunt over the road was superb food and wonderful service. The hotel makes the excuse that they are new and doing it up. Well, I’m sorry but this trade isn’t for you guys, you are a million miles from getting it right. The outside has tremendous potential with a fabulous view but it looks like a rubbish tip with broken furniture and a dustbin right outside our room. Litter bins un emptied and other litter just left on floor. We would have cut our losses and checked out but whole fee was taken on check in. I can now see why. Anglesey was lovely, but we won’t be back to this hotel.

Took four rooms for a sailing crew. Our first visit in nine years. We were pleasantly surprised as rooms were modern, spacious and very clean. Hotel was very accommodating by organising a 6am breakfast for the eight crew which was very good. I’d suggest best place to stay in Holyhead with some nice views from rooms. Very good value too.
