Couldn’t have asked for more! We stayed for one night for my boyfriend’s Birthday. Our room (No 7) was amazing! So clean & nicely decorated. Felt like we were waking up in a cosy room in a house not a hotel/B&B. Tea/Coffee/Hot chocolate & biscuits all a really nice touch which we made the most of. Our dinner was really lovely & our breakfast was amazing!! We found all of the staff so helpful & friendly and we honestly couldn’t have asked for more for our stay.

We last stayed at Byfords 11 years ago. We enjoyed our previous stay but the recent facelift has been beautifully done. We stayed in Room 3, which almost felt like a suite. The room itself had exposed brickwork, tasteful and contemporary furnishings and an extremely comfy, large bed. The immaculately clean bathroom was stunning, with a sunken bath, a shower, and quality shampoo, conditioner etc. There was a proper fridge with milk, a well-stocked drawer with coffee, various teas and more. There were lovely comfortable arcmchairs where we sat and looked out of the window across Shirehall Plain and down the street. Our room wasn't cheap, but I think it was a very fair price, considering how beautiful and how loarge it was. We were cynical about the deli being closed as we visited regularly on previous visits to Holt (when we were staying elsewhere) but we were really impressed with how lovely the bar is which has been created in place of space previously occupied by the deli. It has a great atmosphere and adds a little extra to the enjoyment of the stay. Dinner in the restaurant is good value and varied. Breakfast is exceptional and delicious. Byfords has always struggled with parking as the car park is fairly small, but residents are now given a pass allowing them to park a 4 minute walk away in a car park next to Budgens: A very welcome tweak. Unloading using the original Byfords car park is also allowed. Some other reviwers have mentioned noise. We were above the restaurant: Yes, you can hear very low level gentle music sometimes if you listen really carefully (never at unsocial hours), and the occasional moving of chairs or sometimes other residents walking up the stairs, but let's face it, it's a long way from a night adjacent to screaming drunk neighbours in Benidorm. It's an upmarket place to stay with thoughtful residents and staff. ...Oh, and the staff... They are all lovely. Do they go to Byfords finishing school before they are let loose on the public? They are extremely polite, friendly, and chatty. THey're not overbearing, but they will help whenever you need them to. All in all a wonderful stay. We would love to return. Thank you

Every year we came here for cakes from the shop and this year we came to find it closed. Queues were massive, a lot of people were moaning about the place saying it wasn’t as what it was before. Pure greed to get more money in each year. Never going back again. Absolutely gone right down hill.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the amazing staff at Byfords. Have just got home from another stay at our favourite place in the UK to stay. Absolutely love the new residents lounge/ Henry's Bar. Beautifully decorated and it's so nice to be able to talk to other guests and the staff in a very stylish and comfortable setting. We'll done Byfords. Food and rooms fabulous as always. Will see you in November or December this year.

We stayed for one night as a ‘Just Married’ wedding gift from our family. Everything very pleasant on arrival and the complimentary drinks were very much appreciated. Room was gorgeous and clean. Breakfast was also very good. We had zero complaints … until checkout. It was a different member of staff on the morning we checked out. We asked to settle our bill with cash (as we had been gifted some money from our wedding) but this was an issue. She went to ask someone something but then informed us they do not keep change in the building so cannot take our cash - which we cannot believe - we only needed £20 change! We were instructed to pay by card and then told to take ourselves to a local post office to deposit our own money…. Literally as soon as we mentioned paying by cash the member of staff was flustered and made the whole experience bizarre. Madness for an apparent ‘5 star’ location! It was awkward and we felt uncomfortable. It has left a sour taste in our mouth and we will not consider a return stay in the future. Make sure you don’t take cash if you plan on going!

We stayed here for a 21st and 60th birthday party in nearby Hempstead. Byfords was wonderful! We stayed in Room 1 which was perfect. Smart, comfortable, fab bathroom, air conditioning and lots of thoughtful touches. (Good night biscuits!). But what we were very struck by was that the staff were all, without exception charming and helpful. As a bonus, breakfast in the restaurant was delicious. 10 out of 10 for sure.

We booked specific room for a special occasion, on arrival at 4.30 we were told our room was not available due to building works and we would be in a self-catering apartment called WELD across the road. This was very unsuitable as it had a narrow winding staircase to the bedroom on the first floor mezzanine the toilet was on the floor below, we are 80+ and disabled! We went back to the hotel and explained the difficulties but nothing else was available. I think they thought they were doing us a favour and this was an upgrade, as they are all young they didn't appreciate the difficulties, plus my husband had had an operation on his foot. We asked to speak to a manager but was told she was on holiday, given her name and told to phone the following week. We were given an incorrect name but spoke to Laura who said she would talk to the overall manager the following week and call us back.- no call ever came! She offered us 20% discount for a nights stay but as we live a 3 hour journey away this was unacceptable. We were given £100 off our total bill but this does not compensate for the difficult days we experienced. I will also point out that the information on the WELD apartment is incorrect as they advertise an en-suite shower but it is on another floor abd a hotp tub that is in fact a bath with jets. There is NO notice to say it is unsuitable for anyone with high blood pressure, a heart condition or pregnant. There is also NO notice to say that the induction hob should not be used by anyone with a oacenaker. Overall what should of been a special few days away was fraud with difficulties
