Ye Olde Red Lion

We purchased a Groupon voucher for 2 nights bed & breakfast in the rural area of Holme on Spalding in East Yorkshire. The village where the pub is small but OK. It has 2 pubs (1 pub having real ale & Sky TV) , Chinese takeaway, Pizza takeaway, fish & chip shop, bakery & a Morrisons daily. Also it is located near lots of large towns & cities - York, Hull, Beverly to name just a few. When we arrived we were shown to our room by a pleasant young girl who told us booking a table for evening meal that night was essential. This was because it was pie night which attracts lots of locals. So we did this. Before the evening meal we had drinks on the patio which was really nice before getting ready. After the meal, which was really good we decided the choice on the menu was good enough to eat there on our 2nd night so booked a table. When we came to pay for our earlier drinks & food were shocked at the price of the drinks - Guinness zero £6 & a coke was £3.50. This tainted things for us because I thought the room & evening meal were really very good. Anyway, after food we went to the other pub to watch the football & ordered Guinness zero which was £3.95. Didn't drink alcohol again during our stay in the ye olde red lion. The breakfast was limited & basic but certainly enough to start the day & very well cooked & served by a pleasant lady who was chatty & helpful. Also the bed was comfortable & the room was more than adequate for our stay. So anyone thinking of buying a Groupon voucher for this place I would say go for it as it offers excellent value for money with both the rooms & food. The thing that would stop us from returning is the pub itself which is tired, dirty & in need of a massive refurb. If this was done then happy days but with feet sticking to the wooden floors, carpets & furniture being very worn & dirty just kills all the good things the Groupon deal has to offer. And of course the hugely inflated price of Guinness zero.

I had a great stay at the Ye olde Red Lion last week. It is a great base to explore East Yorkshire and York. I didn't stay in a pod but one of the outside chalets. They are basic but comfortable. Bear in mind there are no toiletries provided and there are only 2 plugs including one for the TV, no usb points if that is an issue. The young ladies working there are really friendly and helpful, they sorted out a alternative option to go to York as a bus route was cancelled. Breakfast was first class...and huge! I asked for a half portion on the second morning and still couldn't finish it. The meats are all sourced from the local butcher which explains their quality. I will be returning in the next month or two.

Fantastic time yet again the place is great Rooms and Staff are amazing. All this with the added Specials nights Tuesdays and Wednesdays this week the roast carvery, topside of beef and roast leg of pork with all the trimming amazing and only £7pp. A must go to place. Fantastic hotel. Chalet style room was very comfortable and quiet. Hotel staff were all very friendly and the food was absolutely first class and amongst the best we have had on our travels. Would certainly recommend and we will return.

My Husband gifted me a Groupon voucher for Christmas for a 3 night stay. Upon arrival Sarah advised us there had been a bit of a mix up with the booking but she had sorted it by moving us to a glamping pod with a hot tub for our last night which was a great way to resolve the situation. We ate in the pub on the first night but they were very busy and it took a long time for food to arrive but once again Sarah sorted this and gave complimentary drinks. The food was very good though once it arrived. Both the chalet room and pod were lovely and the breakfast was also excellent and great quality ingredients from a local butcher. The staff really make this place which seemed to be very popular on the Friday & Saturday evening but we were never disturbed despite being in close proximity to the beer garden. Plenty of places in the village for food and a few shops too. A great base to visit Ripon & Bridlington.

First time stayed here very impressed food was good staff friendly nice accommodation would recommend this place located in nice village if you want use buses very limited really need own transport if you want visit York good park ride service
