My friend and I stayed here on a weekend trip to visit Powis Castle in Wales. For an unassuming country inn, we were so impressed with the Bear's recent renovation, character, luxury, and style, all at very affordable prices. I stayed in the Juniper Suite, which had a living area on one floor and the bedroom on the one above. The rooms were so comfortable and modern, but with an authentic country house charm. I especially loved the random but well selected books in my room. The restaurant was terrific as well, with artfully prepared and plated dishes, friendly service, and a good wine list. It was great to see such a local vibe, with the lord and lady of the manor next door joining for dinner as well! Our only complaint was the music. For a place that's clearly put so much thought into its branding, its menu, its story, and its decor, the choice of bland Top 40- music seemed uninspired. A thoughtful playlist of something like British rock, old jazz, or even chill hip hop would be much better! We'd certainly recommend The Bear
