The owner Mandy was very rude, aggressive, not good customer service, as we paid nearly £400 for two nights stay. The room had tired, faded bedding, blood stained. We asked politely for a fan as there is no air conditioner on the hottest weekend. She said if you want to leave leave. As we didn't have any choice we had to just try put up with it. The fridge wasn't working properly, the tea coffee condiments were stored loose in dirty tins. Mould on the walls which had been painted over. The blind wasn't fitted to the window properly so it let light in. The breakfast was ok the first day, however they served raw salmon on a hot plate when it should have been served on a cold plate. The second day, the toast was completely burnt twice, we asked for a replacement, that came barely toasted - one extreme to another. We kept being asked whether we were going to stay for the second night, she promised to get an air purifier in the room, we came back to a small fan. Too little, too late. The reason I needed air is because I use a Cpap machine and need to keep my airways open. Outside terrace is dirty, basically a place for dogs to have wee and poop. She doesn't have a chef, she does everything herself while trying to juggle check outs, customers are left waiting for their breakfasts. At breakfast on the second day, my partner told the waiter about the room, and service, and she took a stranger to our room without our permission to see the damp and blood. My partner asked her who gave her the permission, she said this is my house, when actually we had paid to use the room and her entering without our knowledge was not right. She said the blood was from outside.?????!!!! There was no hair drier. The shampoo and conditioner bottle wouldn't even clean my eyebrows let alone two people. The hotel is trying to be classy and live up to its price tag but unfortunately, it's a huge disappointment. The orange juice at breakfast served in little glass bottles with lids but these are not fresh squeezed juice, it's the cheap supermarket version. Banana and apples looked tired. Cereal is stored in vintage tins but it looks unclean.

We stayed two nights and were very well looked after. Mandy is extremely friendly and welcoming. Be warned her breakfast is not for those with a small stomach! Food was great and cooked to order, wide range of choice. Perfect stop if walking th Cleveland way. Local pub. Free car parking. Wheelchair access. Would highly recommend.

Just returned from an amazing 4 night stay at The Firs in Runswick. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was cosy, bed very comfy, wet room was great. Best thing though were the breakfast. The food was cooked to order with proper waiter service, and excellent produce. This is so unlike what we have become used to these days in most hotels. There is a pub very close by (the Royal I think) where we ate in the evenings and I have to say the food there was excellent and worth a visit. Runswick itself is quaint, lots of walks and the regular bus to Whitby stops almost outside. A very relaxing break and we will be back.

Just returned after a few days away staying at the firs and could not fault anything everywhere is spotlessly clean and each room is different and well equipped. Our room number 4 had the most comfortable bed and top class bedding and pillows also a jacuzzi bath made a nice touch after a day sightseeing. The breakfast was delicious with all fresh products and homemade jams and marmalade. There's a bus stop just outside where you can get a bus to the surrounding areas without having to drive and worry about parking I would not hesitate to recommend this guesthouse to anyone who is visiting the area

A long weekend with The Firs Guesthouse was the perfect place to stay. Their generousity and service was outstanding; bedrooms, breakfasts and the Fish Restaurant too. So helpful with advice on visiting local attractions. They suggested I shoulkd the bus service to get around - especially travelling to Whitby. Just £2 per trip -anywhere on route. No more parking fees and limited times. One visit isn't enough- I'll to bookjvisit before the winter arrives.

I highly recommend, from walking in, to walking out everything was as expected. The food was excellent and the rooms were exceptionally clean. There was a coffee machine in the room too, along with cake, which was delicious. A quiet, relaxing place out of the hustle & bustle.
