This hotel was filthy and had a terrible odor carpet was filthy sticky and when showered could see dirt running from under my feet to drain Lights and outlets worn outdated and depressing

We had a great stay here. The location was perfect for visiting Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and all the sights in the area. Hill City was a cute town too. We loved that the hotel had an indoor and outdoor pool. The breakfast was really good. Our room was nice and clean.

The Gold Spike is a pretty nice place. Check in was easy and the man at the front desk was very helpful. We had a two room mini suite with two queen beds and one king in the extra room. We had 4 people, so it worked great for us. There is. Microwave and mini fridge in the room. Bathroom is big. Water pressure was ok..but a little weak. Nice pool area. This is a busy hotel with Mt. Rushmore so close by. My only complaint was breakfast. The food was fine with eggs, sausage, waffles…your normal breakfast foods. But the serving area is small and it was PACKED every morning. In fact the last day, we didn’t even try to fight it. I would stay here again, just skip the breakfast.

Third stay at this hotel. Wonderful large rooms with 2 queens, 1 1/2 bath, living area - sofa, chair, desk, kitchenette & table with 2 chairs. Next to grocery store. Blocks to shopping & restaurants. We enjoyed Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Highway, Horseback riding @ Palmer Gulch (KOA).

This hotel is a great location if you are visiting the Black Hills! We always stay here after a day exploring Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood and everything in between. The next day we do Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave National Park and Hill City is a great base to come back to!

The staff was indifferent, no smiling, no welcome to The Golden Spike nothing. I think we were in a newly painted/ remodeled room, but it was just uncomfortable, the beds were HORRIBLE!! The couch was just as HORRIBLE. Breakfast was a waste, the cleaning staff was rude and disrepectful. I do not recommend this property at all
